Yaaay! It's time for SEVENTEEN! Thank you 😊 Just finished watching this and I'm glad you like it so far. I really love SVT and love how strong their bond is. They are the only group I know that doesn't use honorifics when talking to older members, which is very rare for Koreans.

Im 100% sure they use honorifics. I always hear them say hyung. Maybe cause in the subtitles they only put the first names and omit the word hyung.

they say "hyung" but they don't speak using formal/polite language most of the time, when speaking with older members! which is definitely different from how most koreans interact with each other. when you speak formally or politely, the verbs are changed to be more formal/polite, so it's not just the way they address each other that determines whether honorifics are used. i hope this makes sense!

The point of my comment is that they use “honorifics” as opposed to the first comment saying “they do not use honorifics” at all…and NOT whether or not they use it formal or informally. But your explanation is good to those who are not familiar with it. 🙂

I agree with @Eli Min. The chat interactions can be very distracting, especially when important or small details are happening. These members are lot and they do talk fast so it is easy to miss everything they say. Josh often misses the context when interacting with the chat. So, I hope that in the next "In the SOOP" episode, you guys do it without going live, allowing you to focus better please. Just my thought, do what works best for both of you. but loved the reaction as always, excited for next friday

Thank you. I really get distracted when reactors watch a show while constantly talking to the chat cause they lose focus and the show just becomes just their background while chatting.

sorry for writing so much, just wanted to answer some of your questions while watching the reaction so ok josh and cait, here is the full predebut showcase they did showcase 1 i believe ; https://youtu.be/xeHc4U1Sq-A showcase 2 : https://youtu.be/OF0FLtADTzI They did covers of different songs. Some of the trainees in the showcase included: Jang Doyoon Samuel Yao Mingming Shin Dongjin the8 came later on and was not in these showcases. I thought I would mention this in case you get confused with these different faces while watching the showcase. It's worth noting that Seventeen was originally supposed to debut with 17 members.

Sorry if it was confusing. Honorific can be a grammatical form that shows a respect to someone older or higher in status, not just a word or title. So, they say 'hyung', but usually don't change the verbs into a formal form. As a Korean language learner, I found this really interesting, so I wanted to point it out. Thanks @eucalyptus for explaining what I meant!

I’m going to be real. I don’t agree with this recent rise of idols younger than 16 debuting. 1. Like you said Josh, all eyes are on them so the pressure is mad real especially in their case and 2. same with the idea that people becoming actors as literal children or just becoming celebrities as young teens can make or break your future career and even life, it applies to idols that young as well. I also don’t like it because it’s great and all that they can pursue their dreams at such a young age, but I personally do not Stan groups with majority of minors or even a group with at least one member younger than 16. Plus I believe you should at least let them mature a little. And since this is becoming more and more of a thing in kpop now, I’m afraid that once my favorite kpop groups disband, which are pretty much all 3rd gen and older 4th gen, I won’t have many groups I like left or that I’m willing to give a chance since pretty much all the groups will have freshly debuted with majority minors. I’m afraid that’s when I fall out of kpop but I really don’t want that happening because it’s a part of me now and a source of happiness. There are a few newer 4th gen and 5th gen groups whose music and sound I like, but I’m finding that it’s definitely not as much as the older gen groups. 3rd gen is my favorite gen where so many talented groups arose and dominated. So all I can do is hope kpop doesn’t take a turn for the worst

i agree with you. if i'm being real, i really love newjeans music (that they've put out so far), but the reason i can't stan them is because of their ages. i don't, shouldn't and can't consume their non-music content with a clear conscience, because someone my age shouldn't be interested in the lives of children at all

I'm glad you decided to continuously check out SVT... Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if you know a lot more than Josh after a few months lol. I'm a Carat and a new subscriber here. Found this through your reaction to SVT in Killing Voice. I just finished binged-watching your reaction videos on Game Caterers x SVT and Hoshi in Youngji's show and I really enjoyed them a lot😊 Now I'm done with your latest SVT in the SOOP S1. Off to Going SVT eps later then... Though I went here for SVT, I saw you also have a number of kdramas available so I'd like to check them out too. Btw, what's the name of your cat? Oh and I think watching SVT in ITS S1 in twitch is fine if you are able to enjoy the experience better. It seems you like having conversations live too. I think I only find it distracting if reactors don't pause and just kept talking over the video. But you do pause and even rewind if you miss something. Also, as long as the discussions and comments of both the comment section and yours are related to the video and/or SVT, we should be good... Well, maybe the majority still prefers differently. Please do what is more comfortable and enjoyable for both of you.
