L tested the death note by giving up his life. He knew Light was Kira and his own death is the only way he could think of to get proof later on. Now L's successor comes in. Super excited for you guys to see the 2 new characters. Also it was sad that Rem gave up her life for Misa. She really cared for her.

AWESOMEEEEE we're back with death note! I'm so happy! ❤️ Honestly you guys took a break with this show at the worst possible time because light was literally about to regain his memories and then L was gonna die.. two of the biggest moments in the show. 😂 There will be more twists coming but omg. Hopefully you see my comment but that entire rain scene holds a lot of symbolism and is actually really beautiful and sad. I love it! I understand it might've seemed awkward to you, as it first did to many other viewers who didn't understand at the time, but as you know Death Note has many religious themes throughout the episodes. The rain was sort of like a baptism. A baptism cleanses your soul and welcomes you into god's world of Christianity. It also expresses an identification with Christ's death and resurrection. L kept hearing the ringing of church bells, basically foreshadowing his death. The ringing in his head was a sign that he was going to die soon and he knew it. That's why you see him reminiscing on his life and flashbacks of him as a child were randomly appearing. Afterwards L washes light's feet in the same way that Christ washed the feet of his disciples.. including Judas. If you don't know, Judas was a disciple of Jesus who later betrayed him and ended up getting Jesus crucified. L knew that light was going to kill him, his newly made friend was going to end his life, the betrayal was going to happen and nothing was going to stop it. It's interesting because we were able to see a glimmer of humanity inside of light as he grabbed the towel and placed it onto L's face to dry him off. Was he feeling pity? Was it a sense of guilt? Or just an instinct with no meaning behind it. Make sure to pay close attention to the religious aspects of the show because there's a few more things that will happen and i don't want to spoil it for you. So in a world without the power of the death note both light and L would've been extremely good friends.. possibly best friends, and have a friendly rivalry. Whenever they competed against each other they both got enjoyment out of it due to their competitive nature. Unfortunately with the death note, light was easily corrupted and they ended up as sworn enemies.

Another thing i forgot to say: L was able to go out in peace and satisfaction because he FINALLY knew the truth. He was right all along. LIGHT WAS KIRA.
