lol I thought the same when Suga was thinking about tossing to Asahi or not, like "where's the ball, its too long in the air, such an anime thing", but when I watched real volleyball players reactions to this, all of them say it's actually real for setter to think that lot while the game. for us it might be only a second when the ball is in the air, but the setter have to think who they should toss, it's not only about the position of the ball and spikers but also where the position of opponent blockers might come, the opponent receivers/libero's position, each spiker's conditions (are they mentally and physically good at this moment), fellow receivers/libero's position, etc. also the tosses shouldn't be predictable by the opponent. so I learned a lot while watching this show and how real volleyball players view of this, the setter is the main pillar of the team, they're not only have to ready technically (physically) but mentally keep aware of both their team and the opponent.
