*BONUS VIDEO* This was actually really good so far we are excited to get into more. The boys were scared but in the end they were ok after seeing their name pop up on the wall. I am excited to see this season and learn more of older content of the boys. Love you all thanks so much for enjoying these amazing moments with us!

Why am I nervous to see your reaction to this show? Lmao 😂 Nervous and excited.

Ayesha

I’m so excited for you to watch this. I can’t watch it now but I’ll watch it when I can 😁😁😁

Jaeyi

oh my god... I feel conflicted about watching. This nightmarish show made me furious when I first watched it in 2015 lol. But I mean, I guess we're all destined to go through it

Anonymous

I know some people find this show cringy or actually downright hate it, but I feel like this show helped shape BTS into who they are now. Everything that happens in your life defines the type of person you become. While I dislike how some of the people treated them, I think this is a good show to watch to kind of see where they came from.

Anonymous

I've always liked AHL, I just have a hard time watching certain scenes in episode 1, that's why I will be FF. I don't like them being scared. I never thought that "prank" was funny.

AndreaDre

Thank you for this upload! I know the series is somewhat controversial with how the boys were treated at some parts, but it still shows them at the beginning going through this together. Plus, it was the first visit to LA for most members, which was great to experience with them with ahl:)

jjkpjm

Eh i don't think i will ever rewatch this show again... anyways you learn everything about guys, and it's one of the part on their journey so i hope you'll enjoy it

Anonymous

love it!

Mimi

This kidnapping scene is not the only thing I hate about this show. There are many rude people that show up throughout the show. But there are also very nice people as well

Cheyenne

I am so damn happy that you guys are watching AHL and chose to share your experience with us!! Thank you for giving AHL a chance. It's my absolute favourite reality series from them. Bon voyage is number one and AHL is definitely up there for me. It shows many different aspects of the boys and how they grow into who they are as people and musical artists. They meet different people and get to experience new things good or bad and i think that's a good thing for them. It's not as bad as people make it out to be. It's a great show. There are a few problematic scenes and for people who are sensitive to certain content than yes, watch carefully. Personally some things did annoy me but that won't deter my love for the show overall.

Ashlee

Honestly watching this for the millionth time has made me take the kidnapping scene a little less seriously LOL, especially knowing that Yoongi basically caught on that it was all a prank and wasn't even really scared. The members who I think honestly thought it was real for a split second were Hoseok, Jungkook and V. But with Jk i think he started to realize once they got to the place that it was a set up... but anyways THANKS FOR THIS BONUS REACTION ♡ American hustle life does have a lot of cringe moments scattered throughout the series but it also has so many adorable moments too. And i think bts learned a lot of valuable lessons during this series ♡

Cheyenne

Fun fact: They recorded their dark and wild album while in LA in a garage! (:

Alishea Ally

I'm conflicted to watch or not. I really hate the boys being treated like this and the kidnapping scene was too much. The scene of jimin and kookie washing the mini plane really made me mad when jimin got angry 😢 can someone tell me all the good things about AHL again?

Anonymous

love the perspective that you guys bring towards the show! completely agreed with what yall said abt how although it might not be an entirely positive experience, this is something that the boys needed to go through. it's all abt seeing the bigger picture :)

Cheyenne

That's bang shikyuk, hitman bang at the beginning of the episode giving the boys the envelope. They always make fun of his tape and how he spoke. x'D He's a really cool dude and guided the boys with so much love. He always believed in them and that bts would do well so i'm sure deep down he knew how far they would go. Guys have some fun watching this. <3

Liz

I know. Lmao I love that they moved Yoongi to the end so that be wasn’t in the center with attention on him cause he just wasn’t reacting. You’re gonna have to get up earlier than that to fool Yoongi 😂

Sara

I'm glad you are watching this. AHL was my first BTS experience and how I learned about them in the first place so it's very dear to me. Yes, they went through a lot of tough times, but like Suga says later in life it's the fact that they went through such hard times together that makes them a family. I really believe this show helped them become who they are and gave them a direction for what they wanted to do and where they wanted to go. This show made them more aware of the world, the good and the bad, and helped them realize things that are important in life. I can't wait to re-watch the show with you all and see you experience the important early days of BTS.

Anonymous

the show itself isn't bad but the way they were treated in some of the moments makes me cringe so hard but as you said it was a part of their journey even if it's not all positive

Cheyenne

Suga knew about the prank. He caught on eventually hence why they avoided showing him on camera. I'm pretty sure once they entered the hotel room he spotted the camera and knew right away.

Anonymous

Yayy I’m excited to watch this with you guys 💜💜 are you going to react to episode 2 next week?

Anonymous

I’m really glad you guys are watching this series with us. Like most people have said some moments throughout the series they were treated really badly and it wasn’t nice to see but I do believe and like to think that bts themselves also believe, that they learnt a lot and grew from it. Some moments are fun and harmless and I’m glad you get to enjoy those too

Anonymous

I honestly still hate this show but I'm gonna watch with you guys just for the sake of the good moments. To me "learning" doesn't have to ever be like this where people are punished for nothing and met with a discouraging attitude right from the beginning. It makes me really agitated.

Anonymous

Hi guys! I'm also so glad you are watching this series. For me, Iris Stevenson is worth ALL the cringe. I don't know if anyone told you but there are several "unreleased cuts" for each episode. Here's a link if you want to check them out: https://www.dailymotion.com/ArmyBaseSubs/playlists

Liz

I’ve watched this so many times and I still have a hard time watching that kidnapping scene. Maybe because I know just how young jungkook was at the time (he was only 16 during this) and hearing him talk about how he was scared he was about to be sold off (absolutely terrifying to think of) and all he could think of was his mom and dad and probably how he hadn’t been able to say goodbye. It just broke my heart and I don’t like seeing it. I know they’re ok. I know it brought them closer...but I still don’t like it. Also. I just can not STAND Coolio in this show. Idk man. Maybe it’s the way he treats Tae throughout his time with them. Tae is just a beautiful soul and I hate seeing him almost belittled like that. But other than that, it was a good reaction. You brought some really interesting perspectives to it that I might not have seen if not through your eyes. I am excited for you to see more of it since there are some really really really great moments throughout!

Liz

I was gonna say! I wonder if they know about the behind the cams for this show!

Anonymous

I don't disagree with anything you said but I think it would help everyone to maybe understand that Coolio takes his roots and Hip Hop culture very seriously and he doesn't know Tae as well as we all do. To an outsider it MAY look like Tae wasn't taking it all seriously enough maybe? He maybe didn't know Bangtan for the hard workers that we know they all are. Doesn't make it any easier to watch but I don't think Coolio is a bad person really at least in my opinion. I just think of him as the tough love Simon Cowell-esque mentor of the show. But it's only like the first 2-3 eps anyway and the rest of the show is amazing imo.

Liz

I know. And I should take how he was with him with a grain of salt. I mean, even some of the boys have said that it took them a little bit to get used to Tae’s uniqueness so I guess I can’t expect Coolio to understand it only having spent a few days with them. I know they both from two different worlds and different backgrounds. I think I just have such a soft spot for Tae and his beautifully weird soul that, like you said, it’s a bit hard to watch. Tae’s time with Iris makes up for it though. :)

Tanya perez

Hang in there guys! The kidnapping scene was tough but it gets better and better and better as the episodes go on. Big Hit want the boys to really know the History of Hip Hop and the struggles artist had to make it. A lot of cultures want to do Hip Hop but don't really know the culture of it. A lot of people think of BTS as fragile but they are strong and intelligent guys who truly appreciate what they learn and make true friendships with the tutors. That one tutor who introduces himself first was a bit much and leaves the show after a few episodes and is replaced with an awesome nice guy who works well with the boys. This show also brought attention to RM and made it possible for his collaborations with US artist. And don't forget Tony gave us CHIM CHIM💜

Cheyenne

So true. Tae is just a little kid in this and is so innocent, silly, and pure. He's trying to have fun and that's his personality. Some people will look at him weirdly but his charms are there. I love iris. She was so lovely. ;w;

SNBangtan

I think American Hustle Life really gave Tae and Jin their first moments to shine. The show has a lot of heart. Yes, like a lot of their old stuff, mistakes were made (I have watched this series a dozen times and still skip the last half hour of ep. 5 everytime.) But there are so many moments that are really really heart-warming and special (2Seok with the beatboxer, Warren G showing them around his neighborhood, Miss Iris, when the boys take food to the homeless...) It's a special show and represents a special time for our boys. Thank you for watching it!

I love myself

I honestly like this AHL. Hope to see more soon 💜💜💜💜💜💜

Ariana Carrington

I like AHL, you should also start watching behind the scenes, there are iconic moments.

Lucy

I’m not sure if bang sihyuk predicted their success but bts definitely didn’t. Even in one of the festa shows from a few years ago the boys said they didn’t think they’d ever be able to do a stadium tour and look at them now. They’re so humble and deserve all the success in the 🌍

Lucy

Also great reaction guys! There’s definitely some tough moments and I don’t like the way they were spoken to at times, especially taehyung, but there are more good moments than bad. It’s a great series

Anonymous

I just found out that there are behind the scenes to AHL from the comments 🤦🏾‍♀️😅 yeah you should watch those also lol

Anonymous

As much as I try, I can't watch some moments of this show again. The kidnapping scene is one of them. I had to skip over it. There are some parts of this show that I genuinely love... but there are others that just ruin it for me :/ I don't believe many of the things that happen to them are justifiable (and also some parts come off as ignorant to me tbh like an over-simplification of hip-hop by the show runners not the boys). There's also quite a bit of controversy that has come out from some of the people involved in the show (i.e. Tony)... gonna have to skip around a lot watching this one with you guys

Cheyenne

Just to add to the music conversation around the end: I've always been the type of person who adores lyrics whenever it comes to music. That's the first thing i pay attention to in a song and it's important to me. I was never a huge fan of any type of band or musical artist as much as i adore bts. No one has touched my heart like them. Growing up and even now i listen to a lot of alternative, indie rock, punk style music. I'm pretty open to all genres tho. Safetysuit, arctic monkeys, muse, fall out boy, panic at the disco, ashes remain, skillet, bring me the horizon, coldplay, owl city, the fray, the goo goo dolls, green day, hollywood undead, jimmy eat world, lifehouse, snow patrol, lydia, lights, are just a small portion of what i listen to. The list goes on and on. :')

Kookielove82

Jungkook was excited because he trained in LA as a trainee jimin said the maknae bragged about LA after he came back from training and how the air was different . Kookie loves LA and he has said in the past if he moved to America he would live in LA. I don’t care for coolio at all since I saw this series .. Prepare urselves for the stomachaches that are about to come .. look at the babies now though ❤️

ashlyn

am i the only one that doesn’t think this show is that bad like. its definitely cringe at some points yeah and there were some offensive things done on from both parties but in all i think it was a good experience and it is honestly a fun show

KIKI

I don’t like American hustle life bc of the way they treated them and some language barriers parts which make part, but I’m glad your watching it.I hate when they “kidnapped” them and all that, there’s other things that happen later on that the other cast do to bts that is just rude.I can’t watch it bc I can’t handle cringe parts and I get uncomfortable easily but I hope you enjoy it.💜💜

KIKI

When I first saw this show I was a baby army and I think it was one of the first times I’ve seen jimin mad/frustrated.In later episodes something happens and he gets kinda mad for right reasons but I just didn’t see that side of them.So I think you’d also like it bc maybe you’ll see a different side of them💜💜

minsyub

AHL might be cringey & frustrating for armys to watch but this series still taught so much learnings to the boys that they apply until now especially one that a beggar told them to always keep their feet on the ground. Always be humble.

Anonymous

actually are many funny moments, so Im happy that ur are watching it

Bri Nicole

I personally like AHL, but the first couple episodes with coolio was really uncomfortable , you can almost tell the boys wasn’t really themselves and they felt a lot of pressure, plus I hated the way coolio was acting towards Taehyung but after coolio leaves the episodes get a lot much better, you can notice a change within the boys like they felt more open and comfortable. Yeah the show is kinda cringe and some parts was offensive but I took it as a learning experience for them and something new that I know they will hold deeply within themselves. I also loved the boys relationship on the show with Nate and Tony during this time💜this show will always be a memory for army, and the beginning of chim chim happened to the show😊

Anonymous

oh i hate AHL from the bottom of my heart, i couldnt make it past episode 2-3, it just made me so incredibly uncomfortable and mad

Anonymous

like i know that ppl say that it was an important moment in their career and that it helped them a lot but this one guy treated yoongi, tae and jin (i think) like they were trash so...

Anonymous

i cant watch AHL its cringy .. I hope that you enjoy it

Zoey

Does anyone know how often this show will be uploaded here?

DeJané (DJ)

I like AHL as a whole. It has some good moments. But I wasn’t a fan of the way they talked to the boys. More so what I find cringy is how they portray America (black America, to be more specific), hip hop, and the city of LA. In the first 30 minutes, you see 3 large black men come and kidnap them and then a beggar is banging on their car window and in their face. It just doesn’t set a good picture. Remember this show was aired in South Korea. I just think the way us black Americans are portrayed is such a negative stereotype. Honestly I think some of the things the boys did in the early days to be “hip hop” was very cringy. But that’s a separate discussion that I’ll probably get hate for so I won’t get into it.

Mya

Yeah I’m just gonna skip the cringe parts 😂

Criza

Guys, if you don't like AHL then don't watch! No one is forcing you like really, just stop complaining and go watch something else! Anyways, Cait and Josh you're doing good. Keep up with the reactions. AHL is a good series too and you'll learn more about BTS as the episodes goes on.

Anonymous

Right! And it’s not like it’s affecting the upload schedule, so they can just not watch. Most of us enjoy the series so they should just keep it to themselves. I swear people complain about anything these days🤷🏽‍♀️

Jessica

Too many comments for me to scroll through to see if anyone said it already but in the beginning when they were practicing and you said something like oh what's that song, they were doing a cover of a song called "Something" by a group known as TVXQ. TVXQ has been a group since the early 2000's (around 2003/2004). BTS performed a cover of that song on a Music Bank special stage back in 2014. In case you were interested heres a link to that performance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pn_ZmviRwu0 the first half is BTS performance of TVXQ's 'Something' while the second half is a girl group collab stage of AOA, Bestie, and Girls Day covering Girls Generation's "Mr. Mr." I guess it was like a special of idol groups covering the big named groups back then (TVXQ & Girls Generation).

bea

honestly, a lot of ppl hate AHL while others really like it. yes, there are some moments where some of the staff are rude and overall there are some cringy moments but in my honest opinion it’s not THAT bad and they said themselves that overall it was a good an different experience for them, which i agree. although i don’t agree with every little thing said n done in that show, there are a lot of iconic moments and the boys had a different experience where they were in touch with a lot of different people, they visited the hood, they learned about hip hop and their hardships etc. i’d say do one more ep and see how you like it, if you really can’t watch it then you don’t have to! but in my honest opinion, it’s not that bad of a show overall.

m

Thank you for this, I haven't seen AHL in full so it's nice to watch with you guys. Looks like it's gonna be interesting & formative. I appreciate hearing differing perspectives here. My sense on Coolio is he had a rough past, hip hop was life & death for him, maybe he's seen ppl try to use hip hop to get money without really understanding/ respecting it. So he's kinda hypersensitive & misinterpreted tt Tae was not being serious. I get why some ppl won't watch. That said, hope to continue watching with you

ari

I never finished watching AHL because it was personally hard for me to watch, but I gave it another shot because of you guys... and so I found it to be a bit bearable to watch with you guys this time around. I still had mixed emotions watching the kidnap scene for me that wasn't necessary for the experience its like a joke going to far and I kept wondering what if they got hurt or something unexpected happened since you never really know how BTS members were to react like survival mode might have kicked in and how would the staff deal with that...im glad nothing happened and the BTS members pulled through and moved passed it...I also agree with you Josh J-hope is very brave when it comes to facing his fears that aspect of him makes him an amazing being that we know and love...and yes there is going to be more not so great moments cause these mentors are harsh with words so just bare that in mind...in the end BTS had each other and went through this experience together and toughed it out so I think that was some good that we got to see from AHL.

Anonymous

it's pretty obvious the kidnapping was fake. Yoongi moved in the middle of the scene and switched with jimin. He also noticed the cameras. It was pretty staged.

Anonymous

Who watched this show in 2014? I was watching this show in 2014. In 2014 I never heard bad comments this show from ARMY. Many people overreacting this show I think after BTS is popular??

What Will Korea's Hottest New Rap Group Learn About Hip-Hop from Coolio on Their Trip to America? A reality show looks to turn Korea's brightest new idol group into real hip-hop stars. By Blanca Méndez Aug 12 2014, 11:03amShareTweetSnap On the first day of hip-hop school, the seven members of Korean hip-hop group BTS sit anxiously in a Skid Row apartment waiting to meet their first teacher. They speculate over who it could be. Could it be Dr. Dre? The boys are big fans of his headphones. Or what if it’s Snoop Dogg, who recently collaborated with PSY? But who are they kidding? It’s not like they’re seasoned superstars Big Bang or 2NE1. Actually, BTS just made it past the rookie stage this year, and they’re not even on one of k-pop’s Big Three labels (SM, YG, JYP). So it’s only fitting that the person to walk through the door, in a cap with strategically placed cutouts for his Pippi Longstocking pigtails, is 90s rapper Coolio. Rap Monster, the group’s leader, seems to be the only one who recognizes him. BTS are here, in Los Angeles, meeting with one of the hundred or so most famous rappers of the 90s, as part of a reality show called BTS American Hustle Life. As the title suggests, the show promises to show BTS, who are releasing their first full-length album Dark & Wild on August 20, exactly what it's like to make it in America as a rap star. The cameras will follow the group for two weeks in Los Angeles as they get schooled in hip-hop. If that premise seems a little ridiculous, it is: hip-hop credibility is generally built through knowing the culture, while the world of k-pop tends to be blatantly inauthentic. But here they are, and Coolio is going to help them, dammit. Coolio gets right down to business, asking BTS some basic questions about the origins and history of hip-hop. Whether it’s because they’re nervous or clueless or both, the room goes quiet. But it’s not long before Coolio is interrupted by class clown V, who chimes in with a “turn up” that makes Coolio pauses his pop quiz to get the kid in line. He asks V if he even knows what “turn up” means, to which V replies, “Let’s go party?” Some of the other members chuckle, the others shake their heads in embarrassment. Coolio is not amused. He orders V to do 25 pushups, and the group’s eyes collectively widen. Shit just got real. "Do you even know what that means?" is a fair question to ask of k-pop stars, or idols, who often talk the talk without really knowing what they’re talking about. This is not to say these stars aren’t genuine or talented artists, but the k-pop industry is about selling a package. Idol groups are formed by finding raw talent and the right look that can be preened, polished, and trained to deliver that package. When forming a hip-hop group, it’s not as important to know and respect hip-hop culture as it is to be able to sell it. The only rappers you know are Kanye West and Drake? That’s okay. Your go-to dance move makes you look like you’re conducting traffic? Not a problem. The label can teach you how to rap, teach you how to dance, dress you in the right clothes, and even find your swag for you. Korea's label creatives keep track of trends not only in k-pop, but also (and especially) in American hip-hop and R&B. The influence of artists like Kanye West, Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, and Rihanna is keenly felt among counterparts like G-Dragon, Ailee, 2NE1, and 4Minute. BTS was formed and trained by Big Hit Entertainment and debuted last year with the first part of their mini album trilogy, 2 Cool 4 Skool. The group is made up of seven members: leader Rap Monster, in charge of bilingual raps and keeping his boys in check; singer and pretty face Jin, in charge of looking good; rapper Suga, in charge of swag; rapper and dancer J-Hope, in charge of good vibes; singer and dancer Jimin, in charge of abs and high notes; singer V, in charge of tomfoolery; and golden maknae (youngest member) Jungkook, in charge of being good at everything and disrespecting his hyungs (older brother, generally used by guys to refer to older guys they are close to). Of the seven, Rap Monster and Suga are the two members with the most substantial hip-hop backgrounds, both having honed their rap skills in Korea’s underground scene. Though many of the other members had little to no hip-hop foundation, with some rigorous training the group made a strong and convincing debut. Still, there are limitations. Despite the tight rapping and choreography, as well as the overall intensity on part two of the trilogy, O!RUL8,2?, some of the moves are a bit awkward and forced, and their baby faces make the group look a but like little kids playing dress up. They're getting there—fast forward a year to the Japanese version of “No More Dream,” and the progression is clear—but the walk doesn't quite match the talk yet. The idol grooming has them looking good, but it comes with a sacrifice in image, too. It’s a tough choice for a rapper to join an idol group. On the one hand, they gain resources, support, and exposure; on the other, they lose credibility. To many, being an idol rapper is a contradiction. It’s not “real hip-hop” if it’s spit out by the k-pop machine. You can’t expect to be taken seriously when you’re in coordinating outfits and eyeliner doing aegyo (acting cute) on a k-pop show. At an event last year, rapper B Free commented on Rap Monster’s and Suga’s makeup and choreography, stirring up some unresolved feelings in Rap Monster, especially. The BTS leader uploaded a cover of Drake’s “Too Much” to SoundCloud shortly after in which he talks about being seen as a sell-out by other rappers. He admits he still second-guesses himself, but he also acknowledges that he chose the idol life and that it has its own rewards. The theme comes up in some of BTS's music, too. Songs like “Cypher” Parts 1 and 2—although the limitations on idol groups are strict, the label still values the contributions and writing of the more rap-oriented group members—address the inner conflicts that Rap Monster, Suga, and J-Hope have as idol rappers. Is it possible for BTS to prove their hip-hop credibility? That's what BTS American Hustle Life promises. Of course, there are some obvious issues: How much authenticity can you really build while filming a reality TV show? Though Rap Monster and his groupmates may be relatively well-versed in current hip-hop music, it’s hard to understand the music without fully understanding the culture. It’s even harder to do so in a place so far from the source, especially since, for a country that consumes and repackages hip-hop culture as much as it does, Korea has some serious issues with anti-blackness. This is why many fans have a complicated relationship with k-pop and also why many BTS fans were uneasy when news of BTS American Hustle Life surfaced. Yes, these boys could use the lesson, and, yes, this show could be hilarious and entertaining. But it could also go very, very badly. When the teaser for the show was released, it showed the group getting “kidnapped” by a group of black men, taken to an undisclosed Skid Row location, and yelled at like they were on an episode of Beyond Scared Straight. This did not bode well. But soon Instagram pictures of the group with mentors Dante Evans, Nate Walka, and Tony Jones, as well as teachers Coolio and Warren G started floating around, and it looked like the boys were having a good time and learning a lot. It was encouraging. After V's push-ups punishment, Coolio splits the group into three teams. Suga and Jin form the first team, J-Hope, Jimin, and Jungkook the second, and Rap Monster gets the task of babysitting V. Then the teacher assigns homework. The teams have to answer the pop quiz questions they had failed to answer earlier, as well as work on a short rap that they will perform for their neighbors the next day. The team that impresses their neighbors the most gets to have dinner with Coolio. The members are energized and determined to impress their teacher, so maybe if we can get past the mess of the first episode, we can see some real growth. At the very least maybe someone can teach V what “turn up” means. It's only been a day, but a few things to check off their hip-hop school list: 1. A personal live performance by Coolio that reminded J-Hope, who is usually sunshine incarnate but had lost his light along the way, that hip-hop makes him happy 2. A personal live performance for Coolio that had the group visibly sweating 3. Actually kind of impressing Coolio with their performance 4. Hip-hop homework

kookmineve

I don't know if you misread or just didn't see but when Jimin was talking about the trainee who bragged to him about the air quality he did say "the makane" meaning Jungkook because Jungkook went to LA for a month when they were trainees to practice on his dance. Thats why they mentioned Jungkook could be the guide because he was there before.

Rosie

Wow, your dedication into this comment was impressive.

drew

Ohhhhh Tony and Dante 😡

Alex Yeezus

please can u keep watching this, i've been waiting for new episodes

Anonymous

please reupload AHL! The vids are gone. :(

Anonymous

While I understand that this maybe helped shape them into what they are today, I thought it was awful the way they started it. It would be scary enough to have that mock "kidnapping" experience on your own country where you speak the language, I can't imagine the terror they went through. If I was one of their parents and saw this I would lose my shit. They are still pretty much kids at this point and in a foreign country. I'm surprised they ever came back..lol.

Tre

when will u guys continue reacting to AHL
