natasha richardson

Yay!!!!!!! So excited to watch this with y'all knowing brothers is one of my favorite shows lol heechul was my introduction to kpop he was my first bias ever 😂

Jessica

I love this show in general , and when BTS guested on it I was so excited!

Lucy

omg I was hoping it was this! thank you so much for reacting <3

Liz

Oh my god you’re kidding me!!!! I am so excited for this!!!!!!

Liz

I’m not surprised that you were a bit confused! So much happens during this show. 😂

Anonymous

YES YES.. OMG. I WANT HUG BOTH OF YOU. TQ VERY MUCH. BORAHAE💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Lucy

none of the members are from seoul but that's where they live! that's maybe why you got confused

KIKI

I hope next time you react to it pls watch about 1 hour of it or all of it bc the show is better when you watch the whole thing. Also in korea there humor is different from America and trust me bts have been on shows where the ppl were rude to them but that’s not this show. Its all just jokes and the boys said in the beginning that, that’s the whole point of the show. Its kinda like SNL, they joke around with each other and it’s not suppose to be taken seriously. And all the cast of knowing brothers are hilarious, the more you watch korean variety shows the more you will you will understand the humor. And I watched this episode so many times and from what I know there’s nothing that they say that’s super offensive, it’s all just jokes. And as you guys said the show is basically them roasting each other. And honesty I’ve watched other episodes and they weren’t saying many “offensive” jokes to them. And trust me they know not to take it to far. They even said it.When they were talking about the “Pandora box” they were talking about if they weren’t shore if they should say offensive jokes, that’s why the bts members responded with saying “ it’s ok th that’s why we are here”.They also made a reference on being careful on what they said again. One of the knowing brothers made a joke and then said something like “I have his fans to defend me”, Implying That if they say something “rude” and bts fans attack him he has “the other guys fans” on his side to protect him.He says it as a joke and not seriously, but I say this bc I want you guys to know they are totally aware on how famous bts is and they know not to be as offensive in this episode. They are aware that the fans might take what they say “seriously” so that’s why they asked bts in the beginning and they made jokes about it bc they are totally aware on how the fans can be.So just know it’s all jokes also the guy with the hat on(heechul) is close friends with suga.💜💜

XSHINeeBAP

Guys this is the show concept u can't take it seriously.. They diss all guests jokingly and bts knows that too because the program got famous because of this format.. So don't take this seriously at all its all joking!!

DeJané (DJ)

A great surprise! I loved this show! Some really funny parts. I would love to see your reaction to the rest for Saturday night live. 💜

It’s a really popular variety show in Korea where different celebrities such as idols and actors go and usually they go on the show right after a comeback so they can promote their knew song (or movie if they are an actor) and it’s just a show to get to know them better by having trivia and different games. All of them are comedians so they make jokes here and there. It’s just a really fun variety show

Cheyenne

Jin is always good on variety shows and lets loose to make the other members feel more comfortable and at ease. He's not afraid to crack jokes and be silly and a lot of the hosts get a kick out of it. They love his personality.

Lucy

btw the song namjoon rapped is his song ft wale called change, you should definitely react to it if you haven't heard it already! it's all in English and has such a meaningful message

Hi love from Trinidad. the one in the bucket hat is heechul from super junior he is so funny and savage. you should check him out. i love him. ho dong is the one wearing the black see through thing he is a presenter i mainly know him from star king (a kind of talent show). For the others i have watch a lot of knowing bros so i know them but not very well. i enjoyed your reactions.

Jessica

So with this show you are right, its like playful jokes. So the members of this show are Heechul, Yongchul, Hodong, Kyunghoon, Soogeun, Janghoon, Sangmin. Trying to match names with faces will be hard but I figured knowing their occupations might be helpful in watching the show. Heechul is a singer from the group Super Junior. He is very famous and friends with Suga. Yongchul is a comedian, and he MC'ed one of the fanmeetings BTS had. Hodong is a wrestler, but he retired and is now an MC. Kyunghoon is a singer from the band 'Buzz'. Soogeun is a comedian. Janghoon is a basketball player who retired, now he does variety shows. Sangmin is a singer from an old group from the 90's called Roo'ra. So this group of people are from various occupations, but they are all really funny together. This show is known for its savageness as they basically hold nothing back from teasing, jokes, playful insults, etc. All of it is harmless and part of the show. As I watch this show in general, they are actually not too aggressive with BTS though. Also some things you may not get due to language or culture but thats totally fine. For example one of them joked with Jimin about wanting to be like Janghoon. They said he must like money (Janghoon is very wealthy and owns buildings) however he also is divorced, so they made a joke that jimin wants to get married twice. So janghoon was saying "hes still young dont say that!" . This group likes to tease and make jokes about janghoon's divorce in lots of episodes. (sangmin is also divorced). Little things like that you wont get if you dont watch the entire show, or know the people, but for the most part the show itself you can enjoy without having to know that stuff.

natasha richardson

The thing about knowing brothers is that they roast all the guests it's all in fun nothing hurtful and the guests can roast them back once they start playing games it gets Wilder lol😂 the one that's related to yoongi sorry I can never spell his name right he is a singer in a group called buzz like taehyung said they all really liked him when they were young they actually sing buzz songs alot in the next karaoke episode of run yoongi and seokjin pick one of his songs too sing. Heechul is an idol in a group the rest are tv personalities as well as comedians

Tanya perez

That song Jhope and Jimin danced to was from an Old School hip hop group Seo Taiji and The Boys. They are considered the pioneers of Hip Hop in Korea. Alot of Korean rappers including RM and Suga really look up to them. They came out in the 90's and Bts has performed some of their songs including "Come Back Home" and performed with them on their 25th Anniversary celebration Show. When you get a chance check go them out and BTS performing with them too. :)

theGeekOutGirl

I used to watch a lot of Korean variety shows and kdramas when I was younger. It’s cool to see you guys watch this and kinda get an intro to this side of Korean media/popular culture lol. I know Heechul from Super Junior and Hodong from Xman lol

Anonymous

I’m so glad you guys watched this! I can’t wait for part 2!

Cheyenne

Josh, how can you not know jimin's nicknames mochi and manggae? xD He's been called them because of his squishy adorable cheeks. ;-; Mochi and manggae are foods that are extremely soft and squishy hence the comparison.

Ashlee

IM LOVING THIS REACTION SO FAR!!!! Y'all seriously make me smile and laugh all through out it. I completely forgot how hilarious BTS were on Knowing Bros. Since I saw you guys struggling with some info, here's a quick rundown of a few things i can remember off the top of my head:------> The part when Yoongi and that guy talk about having the same last name and being a part of the same family branch is not a joke! I couldn't tell if you guys took it seriously or not but they really are related, just distantly. Because of hierarchy, Yoongi is above him therefor making him his uncle (even tho the guys is older than him) and I think they said it has something to with the suffix "Gi" in his name ---- Each bts member is from a different city/region in south korea. Seoul is where they all live now . Interesting fact: Tae is from Geochang but he actually moved to Daegu for a while growing up so him and Yoongi share a similar Dialect. Also geochang isnt that far drom daegu ---- the nicknames they were discussing are mostly karmy nicknames or nicknames they have all given eachother. The slug one makes more sense if you know Korean cuz i think it's also a pun of Yoongi's last name. ---- all of the knowing bros cast are pretty well known outside of the show too. Like the tall guy used to be a basket ball player, some of them are actors, mcs, and former idols. Heechul is also an idol!! He and bts actually have a pretty good relationship. ---- Seo Taeji (the guy they showed in that concert pic) is like the godfather of kpop boybands, him and his group were around during the 90s and bts received the owner of performing with him at his concert!!---- anyways that's everything i can think if right now but im so glad you guys are watching this!! Also im happy you picked up on the fact that you shouldn't take the roasting seriously. Some korean variety shows do go to far but Knowing bros def has a fun playful balance that makes it enjoyable to watch. Love y'all!! 💜💜💜

Alishea Ally

OMGOSH I'm so so happy you reacted to this!! I loved your reaction even though the jokes were hard to understand you guys did well keeping up with the fast pace! I'm super excited for you to watch BTS on other variety shows too 💜

Anonymous

This is one of my favorite shows and especially this episode, I have watched so many times. It was so fun to watch it with you guys!!! I can't wait to watch next part! ^^

Rosie

None of BTS members is from Seoul. They are all from provinces. Then they came to Seoul to become trainees. BigHit is in Seoul, most entertainment companies actually.

Rosie

Don't worry, I personally don't get most of their jokes either because of the language barriers and names that I don't know. But I can just laugh by looking at their reactions.

Liz

Definitely definitely finish reacting to it! Even if it has to be in a couple more parts! It gets so good especially when they start to play the games!!

Anonymous

OMG whaaaaaat!!! this is a really nice surprise 💜!! I LOVE knowing Bros, I can't wait for part 2!! love y'all!! 💜💜💜

CamillaCorn

a lot of shows in Korea are kind of like this, and they usually last for around an hour to two hours, some have one idol/group each episode while some have multiple idols

Anonymous

I love this episode :) Thank you for doing this. I would love to have part 2 this SNL <3

The song they danced to is from “seo Taiji and the boys” they are the 1st gen legends of Kpop. The MCs in the show are some legendary people in their own fields. Seo Jang Hoon, the one yoongi wanted to meet and jimin wanted to be like is a great national basketball player, Suga was a huge fan of him when he was a kid. The one with black coat on is “Kang ho dong”, he is one of the top south Korean traditional wrestlers and famous Mc. Kim hee chul, the one with bowl hat is a 2nd gen idol, he is a member of a very famous group called “super junior”. “Min kyung noon”, yoongi’s nephew, he is one of the most famous ballad singers in Korea and member of duo band called “buzz”. “Kim young chul”, the one that MCed BTS fan meet is a comedian, “soo geun”, the one that hit the basketball with his head is a comedian as well. Lastly, “sang min”, the one RM did a rap battle with is a member of legendary kpop group of 1st gen “roola”, the group was popular back in the days, but he fell into debt after his failed attempt to open an agency. The reason he couldn’t reply Rm with rap was because it was all in English and he can’t rap in English. When jimin said he wanted to become like “seo Jang Joon”, the reason why they made fun of it is because Jang Hoon is divorced, that’s why they asked “ do you also want to play Korean double game” which means getting married twice. 😂 If you have any other questions about the show or any other, you can ask me. I know a little less to lot about Korean variety shows and hosts. Basically they are all seniors to bts and someone they looked upto at a point of time. So even though, they tease BtS or make sarcastic comments, they don’t care coz they know it is for fun and even if they scold bts seriously, they wouldn’t mind as they are their seniors.

Anonymous

YES! Josh, BTS lives in Seoul right now in a same house. But the 7 members are from different cities, having different background and skills. Once they join in this group, they had to move to Seoul and started living together. I love to watching the rest of this episode.

ari

BTS is not from Seoul they are all from different cities/provinces outside of Seoul. Think of it as Seoul being Los Angeles and BTS members living outside of L.A. in cities like Anaheim etc. All BTS members were born and raised in different cities but they all went to Seoul to become BTS. Like going to Hollywood which is located in Los Angeles to act and be a star. All the members now do live in Seoul since debut when they all roomed together away from their parents living together at a young age to make their dreams a reality. Bighit entertainment company is located in Seoul.

Yeah there’s this video I’m not sure if it’s still up though called why bts don’t go on variety shows and they were so mean to them but here it’s a playful atmosphere they are roasting each other but in a respectful way not a mean way I really love knowing brothers especially the bts one it’s so funny no matter how many times you watch it

Rodica Ogmar

Variety shows are really popular and everywhere in korea, that's why you will see that most of the moments and games in RUN BTS are inspired from different variety shows, also their humor in korea is very different here, they roast each other a lot and their jokes are very blunt, but its not really offensive to them... if you keep watching more variety shows, and kdramas you will understand it more. BTW I REALLY HOPE SOMEDAY YOU GUYS CAN WATCH THE DRAMA WITH TAEHYUNG IN IT CALLED "HWARANG" 😊

Anonymous

Mine too!! (altho I had two biases in Super Junior, Ryeowook and Heechul)

Mo

Oh cool, I've never watched knowing bros so itll be cool to watch it with you guys for the first time :)

Anonymous

omg this was so fun to watch with you guys! never watched this before

Anonymous

Please react to Jimin and Jk talking in satoori..or jungkooks lisp... or more variety shows... Jin really shines in them

KIKI

When are you guys going to react to the last bon voyage episode?I just watched it and it’s so good, I can’t wait for you guys to react to it💜

Andricka

I just wanted to add a random fact you may not know since they were talking about the Min clan and how Yoongi and Kyung Hoon are related. 3 BTS members are descendants from Royal family : Yeoheung Min Clan with Yoongi and Gwasang Kim Clan with Tae and Jin

Lenny Merlenna

I've never gotten the link to the whole episode before.. so this was truly refreshing, cos all these while i only had bits of snippets here and there. Well, as what most commentors here have given explanation to some stuff you were unsure of, I'll just add on.. Jimin's Manggae rice cake actually has been around awhile.. so if you actually look back to some videos you have reacted especially to the compilation ones, there were references to this. They call him that because he looks like one.. fair and fluffy.. cutie in other words. Like you just want to pinch his cheeks kinda feeling. The part where the boys come different regions in South Korea, each parts have their own dialects or better known as Satoori in which they can all understand each other despite the different vocab, sentence structure or intonation used from each region. I think you have reacted to Paldogangsan (Satoori Rap) before.. you might want to see the explanation for it as it explains the lyrics very well. The boys sang that song in different dialects. So, i'm so bumped I have to wait for the second part but I understand the need to spare your space. Looking forward to the 2nd part of this show!

Liz

So basically what you’re saying is Yoongi, Jimin and Tae are actually legit royalty? Cool

Ada

OMG I loved it this was sooo good. I'm happy to see you guys reacting to this. One the very few variety shows they did and you could tell that they had fun with it. I lost a lot of the inner jokes of references to the korean culture too cause as much as we try to learn we will never get all the jokes like they do but it is still very enjoyable to watch. The double kama thing I think they mentioned afterwards that it means to get married twice. So they were making fun of Jimin asking if that was his goal. Cause the ex pro basketball player he was referencing was married twice and divorced. Can't wait to react to the other parts of this show. It's gonna get funnier and funnier

Anonymous

I'm sorry, but the name of the basketball player is Seo Jang Hoon. And Kang Ho Dong is not a wrestler but a Korean traditional sports player. It's called ssireum. It's a sport where Jungkook put a long cloth around his waist and knocked his opponent over.

Andricka

The show is available on Netflix if you ever want to rewatch it one day

Alishea Ally

I learned this a few years ago about their last names and how the hierarchy works. Apparently all the members of BTS come from prominent "clans" (correct me if I'm wrong below) Yoongi, Taehyung, and Jin are descendants from powerful clans so they are kinda like royal blood (credit FB post) I'm going to quote the whole post because I can't say this better. "Seokjin and Taehyung came from Gwangsan Gim Clan one of the most prominent clans during the Joseon Dynasty. Their clan was basically the descendants of Heung Gwang, who was the third prince of Sinmu of Silla in it's 45th monarch. So TaeJin are whole royal blood straight up from a prince." RM is also Kim from the Gwangsan clan and is also royalty. "Yoongi came from the Yeoheung Min clan. Yoongi's great ancestor was Min Chingdo who is a descendant of Min Sun. Min Sun was said to be a major disciple of Confucius, a famous philosopher from China. It was said that Yoongi is the grandchild of South Korea's last Empress." "Jhope clan name is Hando Jeong and is the rarest of the three Jeong clans. This character was originally used to write the name of the Chinese family surname "Cheng". So this descendant of Hando Jung is arguably rare." -@gabriellachiner "Jimin is from the Miryang Park clan. Miryang Park is the biggest clan Park in Korea. The only ancestor to the Park clan is King Hyeokgeose who was the founder of the Silla kingdom. Miryang Park used to be the bloodline of the king's pure blood (Jin-gol)" -@gabriellachiner "Jungkook is from the Damyang Jeon clan was founded by Jeon Deuk-shi, Lord of Damyang. The Jeon clan came from Zibo, Shandong, China. Jungkook is part of 田 (밭 전 bat jeon, "field"), the second largest Jeon." -@gabriellachiner So sorry for the long post but I thought this information might be helpful as to why Suga's family name is higher than the other guys

Ninzie

You will run across a lot of older variety shows BTS was on, some of them are okay, like running man and knowing bros, and after school club, but some downright disrespected the boys to an entirely low level. Weekly Idol had its okay moments, but also had some pretty rude ones, they often ignored members altogether, or insulted them in the case of Yoongi. The end of BTS on these shows came around the time Jungkook was alone taking part in a show called Flower Crew that was live-streamed. Basically JK brought the other guys in the shows hamburgers for lunch that he had bought himself, and the older members of the show looked at the food, said it looked like leftovers, refused to eat it or even accept it from JK and than walked away from him. Than you see JK sitting on the ground with the bag of food looking very hurt and didnt understand what was going on. 6 months later BTS committed fully to RUN BTS and stopped going on korean variety shows. \

Anonymous

Really surprised me! I am so happy you finally react to this 😆 Can’t wait to see part 2!

Karin

Boys are from different areas of Korea. But they do live and work in Soul. Also Tae is sually referred to as Daegu boy while not being diretly from Daegu coz he did study there.

Ariel

Omg yes! I loved this! Will you be reacting to them in Running Man as well?!

Brittney Koza

That's really cool information, but that's not what they meant by Yoongi being higher in the Min hierarchy than Kyunghoon. Korean names are typically 3 syllables: family name, given name and generational name. In Yoongi's case, Min is his family name, Yoon is the given name and Gi is the generational name (basically parts of the name that siblings share). Generational names mean that Min's of that generation have that as part of their name. Generational names aren't as common now, but you still see them, and the patterns are unique to each clan. (Jimin and his brother Jihyun are another example, with the Ji being the generational name) . Yoongi and Kyunghoon are from the same Min clan and they share an ancestor, but they can tell that Yoongi is from an older generation than Kyunghoon because of the -gi in his name.

Holly-Jayne

Yoongi is usually referred to as Daegu boy. Also, Tae lived in Daegu for years as he moved there with his family as a child! He didn't just study there lmao

I'm using a translator because I'm not good at English, sorry! Seo Taiji is a representative icon of Korean pop culture in the 90s. His music was introduced in school textbooks, and Seo Taiji's culture was also introduced in school textbooks. And Seo Jang-hoon became a legend in basketball and married an announcer in the past and divorced her. And there is a myth in Korea that if you have double hair Whorl, you will get married twice. That's why when Jimin said his future dream was Seo Jang-hoon, he asked Jimin if he was Double Hair Whorl. There must be many jokes that are hard to understand because it is a Korean entertainment show! I hope you understand! :)
