We have back- ups to our back- ups x 4. Last winter I almost forgot to think out of the box. Our HVAC system started seizing up and I totally almost forgot we had some spare electric heaters. So, while the HVAC was freezing up, we still had electricity so that we could heat. Actually began using the space heaters to knock the chill off bedrooms and find it more efficient than the HVAC system on super cold days for heating limited spaces. Another back up is kerosene heaters. Based on what you are saying AP, I say "Here, Here". Last year my eyeballs almost popped out because we got a good deal on 55 gal drums but for 200 to 250 gallons of kerosene it cost over $1,000. It is cheaper to get it at the pump at some stations but for that quantity it was impractical. Cannot imagine what it will cost this winter. We do have a wood heater but thanks to our wonderfully concerned EPA, they are catalytic now for "more fuel efficiency". Unfortunately, you can put your hand on the top or side of the stove with a rip roaring fire going inside. The only way you can feel the heat is with the blower fan. Not good if the electricity goes out as the warmth given out still depends on the grid. Have a propane generator that starting the end of last year instead of getting the tank that operates that and the cook stove filled once a year we get it topped off about once every two months. Seems to be more expensive but probably cheaper in the long run rather than getting low. Also have some back up portable Mr. Buddy indoor propane heaters . One of the things we lack is a solar generator. Trying to decide and researching now. Bluetti seems highly rated but the one drawback is their stuff is all proprietary as I understand it. Learned a lesson from that in that our storm doors are made by a particular company that has proprietary parts. When something simple breaks (lke the opening/closing mechanism), instead of running to Lowe's or other Big Box retailer for something reasonable, it has to be ordered from the manufacturer directly and costs a fortune. Like to keep packages of those hand warmers on hand also for the just in case situation. No matter how many back-ups one may have, it always seems there is never enough because you can't capture every scenario. Right now is a great time in my area to look for bargain basement prices on space heaters. I have found some pennies on the dollar deals at WallyWorld in the past 2 weeks, which I would have thought they would put out in early Spring. Another thing we are looking into is our current HVAC system (heat pump which I don't care for) and insulation. One section of this house (built almost 40 years ago) is miserably cold in winter and hot in summer. Going to have upgraded insulation and an evaluation to see if the duct work may need to be modified. Trying to spend some greenbacks now while they can still buy something. VICTOR, thank you for your guest appearances. We have really missed you!!!
