GLORIA - if you read this, I had promised to get back with you on answers to my questions below. This does apply both to a previous podcast AP did and to the one today, I contacted someone I know with the below questions and have included his answers to me as well. Hope this helps all of us in the community. “ I would like to get your suggestions on this. I have been collecting items for backup for our vehicles (i.e. extra oil, air and oil filters, windshield wiper blades) but need advice on what other types of things to get for when SHTF. I have asked my mechanics but of course these folks want us to believe "we won't have a problem getting parts." Sometimes I think they actually believe what they are saying and at other times it's "pat you on the head and give you a cookie. Would appreciate it if you could give me some suggestions. Just before COVID tires looked great but found out they had dry rotted as they were 6 years old. Is there any solution to long term storage of extra tires? I know you should try to get the newest ones based on the date stamp but definitely don't want them to dry rot in storage. I'm sure those truck tires being ON the vehicle and exposed didn't help much either. Whatever other things you would suggest would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much!” “I would recommend replacement belts for vehicles, have a few gas jugs to haul fuel, tools sockets pliers wrench’s, anything carburetor will run if emp happens, my dad has Emp shields to protect his vehicles, on tires on vehicle spray armor all will help with dry rot .”

I would google it and see what answers you get. Here is one I found. https://www.lifestorage.com/blog/storage/how-to-store-tires/ Dry rot is internal so you can't see it from the outside. I read all this in a RV newsletter a few years back. Many RV sit idle and are not moved for months so it was suggested to move the RV once a week and cover the tires to shield them from the sun and heat. I would think anything stored in a hot garage will get damage, where I live in the summer it average 110 - 120 and my garage gets pretty hot since it is not insulated. Many homes out here the garage may be finished but it is not insulated .... I and many of the locals have complaint about the damage done to stored items in our garage.

Thanks Gloria. Yeah, we have very high humidity in my locale and today has been unseasonably hot at around 97 with heat index of 101+. I am glad I am not a garden plant. Got to get some water on my green babies in the AM.
