AP, when I was young (now 69) we'd go through a box of Raisin Bran in a week! Mostly my Dad would since it was his favorite cereal. I'm just wondering how a container of regular oatmeal and a box of raisins or dried cranberries would change the cost and the nutrition? I've tried looking the information up online but I'm lousy at any mathematical calculations so I'm having difficulty with reasonable comparisons. Just seems a box of oats would last longer, cost less than prepared cereal, and provide better nutrition because it doesn't have all the additives. The oats also contribute to a COMFORT FOOD...oatmeal raisin cookies!!!!! I acknowledge that the raisins would raise the cost, but come on....did I mention oatmeal raisin cookies??? :-) Comfort food??? Sanity??? LOL AeiofaDain, I am sure someone who is even a little bit creative could get a little more nutrition if they make everything from scratch, but I think AP wanted to give those on a very tight budget some ideas, especially if they don't cook a lot normally. You and I would buy the basics and some nuts and raisins for the nutritional value.

That's a great question, I think that the price would be just a bit more as the oats that come in a large bag are about the same price as the cereal but in the end you would have more calories with oats and raisins. Thanks for the question and God bless...
