You are supposed to hate him, but he will grow as a character in season 2 and 3. It's still better than other isekai's with overpowered MC's and it's boring storyline

The first season is the best but I really enjoyed the other ones too, although my favourite type of anime is op main character so I can be slightly bias 🤣

This is her inner monologue in the book: "Without a thought about what's going to come after, i start doping up with one interference formula after the next. Improved reaction time, increased instantaneous strenght. Before my brain registers the shooting pain of forcing open the magic circuits, i alleviate it with intracerebral narcotics. Well it's a constant slow growth and the worst parts are already done by episode 6 of S1 . And to be honest like 80% of the bad stuff about Rudy is actually quite common in anime, it just usually get's played for laughs.

The story itself is great, only the animation that goes really bad, though it recovers a little by Season 4. And considering Neel managed to watch S3 of NNT and enjoyed it, he likely would be ok with the dips in Overlords quality as well. Well and it suffers from all the many little details that are lost in the translation from LN to anime as most anime adaptations do.
