Watched s2 and the movie didnt know this arc existed animated

Mikyah

That's fair since this arc was adapted way after season 1 and aired, especially after the other movie

Unfortunately the issue with any anime adapation means that they have to pick the story elements to give screen time to. There is a reason why the Yotsuba are the way they are, honestly their mom was not the main cause of Tatsuya being the way he is, and frankly most of the world treats magicians like that.

Miyuki calls her mom 409 times. Neel “that’s the aunt right???” 🤣

Mikyah

Not that it looks crisper for movie reasons, it's just that the show was given to another animation studio. Used to be MADHOUSE, now it's studio eightbit for both the movie and season 2

Michael

Miyuki: Calls Miya mother and Maya aunt. Neel: These relationships are so confusing, there’s a mother and an aunt.

As for show suggestions, I think RWBY would be a good yet long one. A lot of people hate it but a lot of people also love it, kinda like SAO. First 3 "volumes" (seasons) start out in bad quality due to the budget being super small and done by 1 person, but it smooths out later and turns amazing as a studio picked it up and the storyline is awesome in the later seasons. If interested, there's a couple trailers for it which are Red, Yellow, White, and Black, which play out in the story itself. A really unique thing about it though is that it is the first American show to have an anime or japanese adaptation of it, which is RWBY: Ice Queendom which only has 1 season I believe. 9 Seasons total and still going for regular RWBY, however, some are really realllly short and then some are around standard length. I've probably rewatched it like 20+ times, funnily enough, might even upgrade my patreon plan just so I can make you watch a bit of it lol. I'm kidding ofc, (kinda.) It does start out a little corny, but starting or at the end of volume 3 the whole show gets a lot more.. grim. I'd say it matures with the audience, except it just does a whole 180 rather than gradual change. But yeah would be really cool if you checked it out so maybe spare it some thought, but if not that's cool too :D

Tatsuya’s decomposition of the torpedoes taking longer was a combination of him being younger/less experienced and the simple fact that he doesn’t have a CAD at hand. Technically all magicians can do that, as seen in the military training, but doing it without a CAD is extremely inefficient. To go a bit further into details on the surgery the conclusion Miyuki comes to is that their mother overexerted herself during the surgery, by precisely adjusting what would be sacrificed for the Artificial Magic Calculation Area instead of just sacrificing everything and as backlash it also killed part of her emotions, completely cutting off whatever bond they still had at that time from both sides. You don’t know how right you are with saying that this has been going on for generations. The 10 Mater clans are all descendants from labs that existed when Magic first started being researched and magicians started being developed as weapons, the families themselves are the result of human experiments. Honami is a magician of the Sakura series, genetically altered magicians called “Augmented Magicians”. They generally have a short life span and It isn’t uncommon for some to suddenly debilitate and die without any cause. Those of the Sakura Series can’t withstand continuous use of their magic for long periods of time, it leads to their Magic Calculation Area overheating and burning out. It’s not a strictly physical ailment so Tatsuya can’t easily heal it and even if he managed to heal it the next time, she overuses her magic she would be back in the same situation and even if she doesn’t, she likely only has a few years left to live anyway. That’s why she chose to rather take the chance to die a death without regrets on her own terms than being used up as a tool until the end of her life.

Also this is something that was never adapted to the anime but would have been part of Vol.8 Just like the reminiscence arc and that is Maya and Miya’s past. 30 years before the reminiscence arc, when Maya and Miya were 12, Maya was attacked and kidnapped by magicians from Daha, she was held prisoner for 3 days before her family rescued her and during that time she was raped, tortured, and experimented on. The physical scars left from it left her unable to bear any children and the mental scars left her broken to the point of being completely unresponsive. To save Maya from the mental scars their father made Miya use her magic to cut off all emotions from her memories of those 3 days. That said Miya was still just a 12 year old girl, she didn’t have the ability to select specific memories, so the only path left was to do this to all of her memories of to the present day. As a result, Maya “recovered”, but her memories of the first 12 years of her life were now just knowledge, like something she read in a book or saw in a movie, with no emotions attached to it. To Maya this meant her own sister had killed the person she was, and this caused the relationship between the sisters to completely break down. That is until decades later Miya got pregnant with Tatsuya, which twisted their relationship in a completely different way that will be explored later.
