I'm gonna go on a little bit of an information dump here about some of the terminology used in the show for Neel and those who are watching it for the first time to understand. This one will be about the CADs. If you guys want to know more about this I can also make one about the Magic family system and the systems of magic. If this catches your interest I highly recommend reading the light novels because they go far more in-depth with the world building. So about CADs. The abbreviation stands for Casting Aid/Assistant Devices. They are used to assist modern mages in their casting of modern magic like how talismans, magic circles, staffs, etc are used to help with the casting of ancient magic. There are technically two types of CADs with a third that becomes prevalent later in the story but I don't think it gets mentioned this season except for the fight device. The two primary classifications are specialized and generalized types. Generalized types typically come in the form of bracelets, braces, and phones. The advantage of these are their versatility. They can store up to 99 magic sequences and the magic sequences can be from any of the 4 great systems and any of the 8 types that make up said systems. Mages like Miyuki use these because their casting speed is so fast and their magic affinities are so vast that they can make use of many different types of magic. For Specialized CADs they can only store around 9 magic sequences belonging to 1 of the 8 types of magic that make up the 4 great systems of magic. However these have a large advantage over generalized CADs in their activation speed and their ease of use. In his match with the vice president Tatsuya told the upper classmen that he did not have sufficient processing ability to use a generalized CAD and this is true, he was not exaggerating. Many mages are unable to use generalized CADs not just him. The other advantage specialized types have are sights. They are not guns as they do not have barrels that fire projectiles. Those barrels contain auxiliary aiming systems that help take some of the burden off of the user. These types typically come in the form of pistols and rifles. In relation to this it should be noted that theoretically the concept of range/distance and physical barriers do not apply to magic. As long as one is able to observe an area or object and the current information pertaining to it then they can cast magic on it even if they are on the other side of the world. However, humans are unable to rid themselves of this concept of distance and unconsciously restrict themselves with it. Tatsuya is one of the few mages in the entire world who can do this due to that scanning ability of his, which gets explained in the novels. That is it for now I hope everyone enjoys the show.
