You are right, technically parents can't force their children to marry someone they chose, but that's where social pressure and stuff like that comes in forcing the children to eventually cave and nothing being done about it. For that technicality to have any meaning you would have to drag the parents to court and children in those kind of circumstances often times wont be able to do that, be it on an emotional or, even worse, straight up physical level. Before the SAO incident Asuna too was a child that always did what her parents told her and perfectly followed the plan that her mother laid out for her and you can see it, she isn't used to Asuna having her own thoughts, much less rebelling against or denying her. If Asuna was the same person as she was before SAO she might have just reluctantly agreed to what her mother is saying. In the case of Asuna's father it was really a case of ignorance and desperation (don't get me wrong, not excusing it, it was still fucked up) but once he realized what he did he learned his lesson and let's Asuna pretty much do whatever she wants. Her mother clearly hasn't learned that lesson yet and even with all that happens she is still trying to control every aspect of Asuna's life, without giving the slightest consideration to Asuna's feelings, because obviously "she knows what's best for her daughter".

The first film is "Sword Art Online: Extra Edition". As the title already suggests, this is an additional story on the one hand and a summary of the first season on the other. However, the extra is not based on the books and the film is therefore not absolutely necessary for understanding the plot. I recommend the film "Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale" between the second and third season. Although this film is not mandatory for understanding the plot, it connects the plots of seasons 2 and 3 and draws on characters from the manga, even if the film is not based on the novel. Before the third season, the spin-off "Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online" was released. Again, this is an extra that doesn't contribute to understanding the main plot. The movie Sword Art Online: Progressive - Aria of a Starless Night is a reboot of the Aincrad arc (the first act) from Asuna's point of view. Which is why I would categorize it after the first season. "Sword Art Online Progressive: Scherzo of Deep Night" is the sequel to the film and is therefore the second part of the reboot series.
