Skipping this opening is criminal

If you have any free time I recommend reading the manga too, as good as this is there are so many scenes and important dialogue like foreshadowing, training, flashbacks, entire characters, and fight scenes that are completely cut out. It’s not too bad since the show is still enjoyable but later on the anime doesn’t just drop the ball it tosses it to another country.

I never read the manga, enjoyed season 1 fully, was confused in season 2 but enjoyed it somewhat, and in season 3 I was only confused and dropped out.

Season one cuts out all of the foreshadowing for the main villain, a lot of important inner dialogue and interactions, it rearranges and combines different scenes. For instance in the manga Kaneki finds out about coffee and goes to buy some and there he meets Nishiki who recommends him the best type to buy, so it makes the scene of Kaneki seeing that brand of coffee in Nishiki’s place more impactful. They also cut out a scene where Kaneki asks Hide what he thinks of Nishiki and Hide says something along the lines of “He’s poisonous, I probably hate him.” Hinting at Hide’s intuition more. Even the first scene in the cafe has lots of world building cut out in favor of the Jason vs Rize thing. I’d say some other examples but Neel isn’t that far yet. On its own it is really good but compared to the manga it’s pretty meh. Season two changes the plot completely from what it is in the manga so the final fight that explains what happens to Kaneki is cut out and the last chapter in the manga is the reveal of what he saw above him when the steel beams fell on Rize but in the anime they literally never reveal it. The next season goes back to the manga’s story so it’s like whiplash. Not to mention the studio crammed almost 200 chapters of content into 24 episodes coupled with underwhelming animation and no character development for anyone not in the main cast so the final season despite being my favorite part of the manga is literal garbage.

I was hoping you would check out the opening. It is one of those that are pretty good with not spoiling a lot and its one of the most well known and popular anime openings of all time. Its got like well over probably 150 million views on YouTube by now. I haven't checked recently but its a lot.

I am one of those people that think enjoying an opening with the anime itself is all part of the experience. Of course if it isn't super amazing you don't have to go through it each time you watch an episode but a lot of the time it gets you in the right mood and when you think back to a specific anime you will have that nostalgic song and visuals of the opening to help you remember how your first experience was with the anime itself.
