Yhwach 1000yrs ago looked exactly same as how he looked today, according to past flashback of og captains in ep 7. Here, it was said OM Zangetsu is what Yhwach looked like 1000 yrs ago. 🤷‍♂️ But that's not the case. Also, OM Zangetsu said I relied on ur Hollow to train you this and that time. What about Bankai training? It was all OM Zangetsu only that trained Ichigo. Even during Final Getsuga, Tensa (OM) Zangetsu merged with the hollow to teach him that together! And his personality was the dominant one after the merge. Clearly Zangetsu was acting like Ichigo's zanpakuto not just in name. He was actually teaching himself too. Is it a clever way to retcon stuff?

Yes, Bankai training was conducted by Old Man, but at that time Hollow was still very weak, not awoken. When he finally woke up and saved Ichigo, Getsuga Tenshou in bankai took black colour. So you could argue that he was using Hollow power in bankai training, only during that time it was such small percentage it didn't manifested him. As for Final Getsuga Tenshou - it very likely contains all of Ichigo power, not just his shinigami powers, hence why they trained him together. In fact, when you you look at Ichigo in Mugetsu form, after he took a hit from Aizen, you can actually see symbols covering his injured half. While not identical, it may very likely be a Blut. As for how Yhwach looked 1000 yers ago... I may be wrong, but I believe in manga he actually had much smaller mustache at that time.

Today author claims Old Man was quincy power since the beginning but he clearly didn't have that intention before. Both old man and hollow were Ichigo's real zanpakuto powers and their actions supported it too cuz both trained Ichigo in their own ways. Old Man even changed form to a teenage one when Ichigo entered his world in bankai. These neat little things totally scream Old Man was his zanpakuto as well, that was the original intention of author. Old Man helped him with finding the zanpakuto and telling the name, developing trust/bond with the zanpakuto, literally trained him to get his bankai, was key figure during fgt training. While hollow helped with developing a fighting instinct, showed him better use of zanpakuto by using getsuga in creative ways, using getsuga in bankai. Both were half and half. Now it's flipped and only hollow's contribution is being looked at as sign of true zanpakuto. There is no good foreshadow for Yhwach the quincy king, Ichigo being a quincy, Old Man not being his real zanpakuto. Zero proper foreshadows of these things. Story is being spun around by using convenien vague wordings. Hollow saying "I am Zangetsu" can be interpreted as he is also Zangetsu. Fgt training confirmed that both were Ichigo's zanpakuto. It's a really really clever retconing in my eyes. Also, once in the inner world old man was nowhere to be found (during hollowfication training) cuz hollow was getting stronger. Hollow had become the dominant force over old man in the inner world and yet old man today claims he was restrainting Ichigo's powers? How do you restrain someone superior than yourself? Why was Ichigo's soul reaper powers "immature" and Quincy powers "mature" that allowed old man to take over? Convenient spin.
