Tom at PAX Unplugged!

Bharzul

Path to the Stone Palace

This was once the entrance to Bharzul, centuries ago when it was just a fortified outpost of the now lost underground dwarven kingdom. It remains largely unchanged from that time and stands in stark contrast to the elegance and cleanliness of the rest of the city. This is a deliberate choice, partly out of respect for the history of the site and partly to intimidate visitors as they make the final leg of the journey up to the Stone Palace and crown seat. The dark pathway is unsettling and almost silent. After the bustling splendour of the rest of the city, it is almost impossible not to be unnerved as the heavy golden gates close behind you.

Gothic Mansion

For many years this house was the private abode of Emmanuel Elazar, until a group of adventurers discovered his secret and cleansed his evil from the building. The group were gifted the house as thanks by the mayor, and they spent some time and no small amount of money rebuilding and re-decorating it, but were shortly called away on some other grand world saving mission and have not returned since.

The house is well kept by the staff they left behind, but there is little for them to do on a day-to-day basis, so the house is mostly left empty. Seeing an opportunity, a group of bandits broke into the property and are claiming squatters rights. The mayor doesn’t want to bother the adventurers who own the house, and even if he did he has no way to contact them. Instead he is looking for a new group to help deal with the issue, without doing any undue damage to the building.

Hideouts & Lairs

Silver Dragon Lair

Out on the far stretches of the continent are a range of pillar-like mountains. Each peak is impossibly tall and narrow, reaching hundreds of feet into the sky. The tallest of these pierce the ever-present clouds and are lost from view. If one were to somehow scale the mountain-side or discover a way to safely navigate the hazy skies, they may find the lair of Tianzaeren, a beautiful silver scaled dragon who calls this region her home.

The grand temple and its adjoining buildings atop these peaks seem very out of place, as though they were dropped there by the gods. Even among dragons, Tianzaeren is incredibly vain. She is very aware of her beauty and takes great pride in being a dragon. She believes many of her brethren do not lead lives befitting of such a majestic race and has taken it upon herself to impress those who come to visit and worship her.

Into the Wilds Castles 04

Training Grounds - The castle guard train rigorously when not on duty. In order to keep training engaging and to help motivate the soldiers, there is a running leaderboard of duel winners and losers. The competition has got so exciting that the lords younger children have been known to join in.

Jousting Arena - Jousts are held around most of the larger holidays and celebrations. Almost all of the regions knights enter the lists. The prize pool is rarely large, but the winners are held in high regard by the common folk and are treated like local celebrities.

Tower - At the top of the tallest tower in the castle is the bedroom of the lords eldest child. No one has seen them in years, it is said that they never leave the tower. Whether that is by their own will or someone else's is the topic if much gossip and debate in town.

Chapel - Most of the time, the nobility and general castle staff are rather removed from one another. The exception to this is the weekly sermons in the castle chapel where all are expected to attend, sitting side by side.

Mannered Bear Inn Scene

In the past, guests would be greeted by a large tame brown bear named Manny. Manny and his partner (the pubs original owner) have long since left this world, but Manny’s pelt still adorns the tavern floor. This pub is centred around a large open fire pit. Most nights there will be a wide range of guests sharing stories and singing songs. These have all been heard before however, so a new tale is always welcome.

Acerbak’s Bite for 5e & PF2E

Fearsome tunneling beasts, the Acerbak are known for their powerful acid that cuts through stone and metal alike. Many unsuspecting miners have met a sudden and brutally painful demise when ambushed by these crafty hunters. The few that have managed to slip away often bear the scars of their encounter for the rest of their life. This bracer features two protruding spikes made from a special alloy that is resistant to the Acerbak’s acidic saliva along with a magically sustained acid gland pulled directly from one of the beasts.

Acerbak for 5e & PF2E

Over the years, more has been understood about these creatures dubbed "Acerbaks". Their nests are fiercely guarded by their colonies. It's known that they often hunt in small packs preferring to take a numbers advantage over being individualistic. It's also known that their societies are matriarchal clusters similar to honey bees, though a queen has never been seen by someone that lived to tell about it.
