Hideouts & Lairs

Bronze Dragon Lair

There are a several dozen small inlets and coves around the headlands, many of which tunnel into the rock of the cliff. Most are shallow and hold little of interest aside from sea bird nests, but one of the larger caverns once housed a hidden Dwarven outpost, It has long since been abandoned by its former owners, but in the intervening decades a large bronze dragon has made its home here.

Izloreth is a solitary creature. The isolation and sound of gently crashing waves calm her, soothing her inner rage. So long as she is left alone with her treasures, she is no danger to anyone. Very few even know these caves exist, let alone that a Dragon inhabits them. Unfortunately for her, Dwarves have a long memory and have decided to return to the outpost.

A squadron of soldiers and engineers was sent to investigate its state, but in doing so they unwittingly disturbed Izloreth and unleashed her fury, which is being enacted upon the surrounding villages and towns. The dwarves have retreated and are looking for reinforcements to help them retake the lair and stop the dragon.

Copper Dragon Lair

Atop these hills are a series of standing stones. No one knows their origin or purpose, but during certain phases of the moon they illuminate. This has made them something of a sacred site and folk from the neighbouring towns and regions make pilgrimages during the harvest moon to pray for better yields.

During the most recent pilgrimage, at the height of the harvest moon, the pilgrims all heard a deep booming voice emanate from below the ground telling them to ‘Sow chaos as you sow your seeds, and your crops will flourish’. Taking this to heart the townsfolk returned to their respective homes and started pulling pranks on their neighbours, causing mayhem.

The voice they heard was not in fact a God of the Harvest, but Zavamaru, a Copper Dragon who had recently moved into the caves below the standing stones, expanding them so they could house a dragon of his size. Zavamaru has a great love for practical jokes, trickery and jump scares and upon learning of the myth of the standing stones decided it would be a perfect place to settle.

Unfortunately, the townsfolks pranks have been escalating as they all seek to have the best harvest and have caused some real damage and harm. Some of their victims are looking for a band of adventurers to seek out the source of the voice and put a stop to the mischief.

Into the Wilds - Arctic 02

Ice Flow - In some areas the ice is beginning to break apart, the thick sheet ice giving way to floating icebergs and platforms. From a distance it seems to move incredibly slowly, but if you aren't careful it's easy to get caught out and find yourself floating out to sea.

Iceberg - Deeper into the freezing waters are large icebergs, floating ominously in the thick fog. Most steer to avoid them, but when your boat starts taking on water they seem like a lifeline to avoid a slow death. Hopefully someone will come and find you soon, as the iceberg drifts further and further from land and the dark shapes below the surface get closer and closer.

Crevasse - Over time the glacier has shifted, forming deep cracks and ravines across its surface. Some of these are relatively shallow and easy to navigate but some are too wide to cross without a bridge, and too deep to see the bottom. Simple rope bridges like this have been setup along important routes, but they are poorly maintained and liable to collapse under too much weight.

Ice Cave - Seeking escape from the driving blizzard and freezing winds, this small cave seems like a lifeline. Its still cold, but not the bone-chilling, life-sapping cold felt outside. As you settle in and try to get comfortable while waiting out the snowstorm, you begin to wonder who or what else might know about this hidden shelter.

Bharzul Observatory Interior Scene

Despite having a reputation for being earth-dwellers and lovers of rock, the Dwarves of Bharzul have an equal affinity for the night sky. Many of their lore-masters will consult the celestial records when debating historical currents and events, and the common folk take guidance from the phases of the planets and moons when making important decisions.

Astronomer Cri runs the Observatory, which is located on a small plateau in the mid-city. The record halls are open to the public by appointment, and the gallery is often filled with dwarven schoolchildren viewing the planetarium. Cri has a deep love for the stars and planets, and it is her greatest joy to share it with others.

Cleavertail for 5e & PF2E

While this mechanism was originally mounted to a Drudgework Cleaver, it’s obvious that a resourceful individual has repurposed the hopper and tail to be a usable backpack for the adventurer on the go. The tail is made of an especially hard metal and is controllable by the wearer of the pack. While it functions like a normal backpack, it has much more to offer for those that strap it to themselves.

Drudgework Cleaver for 5e & PF2E

The sounds of mechanical sawblades whirring might bring alarm in some areas of the world, but for others it's just the continuous march of progress as society moves forward. Industry takes on all forms from stonework to the felling of trees and all of it needs to be accomplished with maximum efficiency. With demand for affordable housing rising in larger cities and the need for firewood to burn for hearths across the continent, the need for wood has never been greater.

While the dwarves are often known for their stonework, they also understand the value that wood holds in their society, whether it be in building of domiciles or the crafting of tools. The first Drudgework Cleaver was crafted with the intent of being able to saw down trees at a rapid rate. As the project grew in scope, new features were requested and added. First to go was the need to push it around. Equipping it with its own mobility turned out rather painless as the Drudge crystal network was already operational.
