Background

The cemetery looks like it has been abandoned and decaying for decades, but one of the locals swears it was standing and in regular use only a few days ago, just like the nearby remains of what must once have been an awe-inspiring cathedral.

Others claim he is mistaken, perhaps a little too much ale and not enough sleep. Certainly, he looks somewhat dishevelled. However, he is so certain he is willing to pay anyone who will investigate and bring back some definitive evidence that he is either correct or has lost his mind.

Upon closer investigation, the cemetery does not appear to have been overcome by age and decay, but rather a force from within. Much of the plant life and foliage around the cemetery is withered and dead and it seems as though something escaped, or was set free.

Design Notes

Ruined Cemetery – Grounds

• 01 – Main Gate – The two large iron gates have fallen, or been pushed, outwards. The stone grotesques on either side have been damaged from some blast of force.
• 02 – Ruined Mausoleum 01 – A large part of the mausoleum has been destroyed, but the stairs that lead into the lower crypts (12) are still mostly intact.
• 03 – Ruined Mausoleums 02 – Each of the three tombs is in a worsening state of collapse, as though the damage originated to the north of them.
• 04 – Hidden Stairs – This staircase seems to have previously been obscured by the coffin on top of it, which has been pushed aside. It leads down to 14
• 05 – Broken Memorial – A statue and a stone tablet seem to be a memorial of sorts to a group of people, but the damage has obscured any detail.
• 06 – Back gate - Lining the path to the smaller rear gate are numerous gravestones of community members whose families were not able to afford a place within the cemetery itself. They have sustained less damage than rest of the cemetery.
• 07 - Ruined Mausoleums 03 – The only building that is still mostly standing has had its doors blown outwards forcefully. The stairs inside lead down to 09
• 08 – Unmarked Grave – Another mechanism to hide a staircase that has been revealed. This cemetery clearly held many secrets. Stairs lead down to 11, but are partially collapsed.

Ruined Cemetery – Crypt

• 09 – Ruined Crypt 01 – The remnants of an arcane circle are etched in the centre of the floor. The statue and wall to the west have been knocked over, revealing the hidden treasure vault behind. Stairs lead up to 07
• 10 – Artefact Room – A stepped podium takes up most of the space in this room. It seems that an object would once have been displayed atop it.
• 11 – Ritual Room – An altar decorated with dark runes is the only object in the entire cemetery that has sustained no damage or sign of aging. Broken stairs lead up to 08
• 12 - Ruined Crypt 02 – Many of the stone tombs seem to have been opened. Whether from someone outside or whatever remained within is not clear. Stairs lead up to 02
• 13 – Cultists Crypt – A single wooden coffin has been broken open, the burned remains of a book lie on the floor next to it.
• 14 – Secret Hallway – This room seems to have been hidden behind false walls which have since collapsed. Stairs lead up to 04
• 15 - Ruined Crypt 03 – What few coffins remain in this crypt do not seem to have been opened, at least not yet.
• 16 – Treasury – This room once held all of the valuables and treasures that were laid to rest with those in the crypt. It seems to be completely looted.
• 17 – Hidden Passageway – Another secret area that has been revealed by the damage. The centre of the tunnel has collapsed inwards but could be cleared given time.
