This is the base set for this weeks maps. It includes high resolution day and night variants of every level. Higher tier patrons can get the complete set with additional variants HERE

This map set is part of the Samarahd - The Desert City series.

Background

The temple does not devote itself to any particular god, but instead to the life bringing, cleansing and healing qualities of water. It houses a free hospice open to the most needy among Samarahd’s society, a tropical garden unlike anything seen outside the Emerald Palace, and luxurious public baths, all of which are funded by generous patrons.

Below the public building are large private meditation chambers. These are reserved for the devout who work in the temple and are also open to the wealthy individuals who fund the facilities. Occasionally, those with life threatening injuries who can’t be treated using traditional means in the hospital are bought below as the waters here are suffused with magical healing properties. Being submerged within them has been known to even bring back the recently deceased.

In recent weeks, Guru Yaminah has felt an unfamiliar presence in the chambers. She fears some corruption has entered the waters, but none of the other devotees have noticed anything. The feeling is currently contained to the lower pools, but Yaminah is concerned that whatever it is may spread, not just through the temple, but into the oases that are the heart of the city. She is looking for adventurers to help identify and, if possible, remove whatever is causing this sensation.

Design Notes

Water Temple 01 Meditation Chambers

  • 01 – Central Chamber  - The platform floats on top of a pool of water fed by waterfalls cascading from the emerald oasis above. This hydraulic platform in the centre ascends to 10.
  • 02 Fountains – A towering statue of the temples founder overlooks the pools.
  • 03 Portal Room – This hidden side chamber contains three shallow pools of water. Those who know the correct incantations can activate three portals that give access to other parts of the city.
  • 04 Shallow Pool – The water here is barely knee deep. It is used by those who wish to enter a deep state of meditation, without the risk of drowning.
  • 05 Swimming Chambers – These deeper pools allow a full submersion. The water is drained and refilled each morning using a mechanical system of levers and pipes to keep it from getting stagnant.
  • 06 Meditation Chambers – These small rooms provide a quiet enclosed space. Running water flows into the basins creating a vacuum of white noise.
  • 07 Control Room – The wheels control the pressure and flow of water throughout the temple.
  • 08 Water Sprite Statue

Water Temple 02 Baths

  • 09 – Tropical Gardens  - The desert city of Samarahd is surprisingly green, mostly thanks to the abundance of water from the oases, but it is still rare to see a curated garden space as the water source is finite and carefully rationed.
  • 10 – Hydraulic Platform – Descends to 01
  • 11 – Herb Garden – These quiet areas have a beautiful view of the tropical garden from a shaded vantage point. The herbs grown here are used for medicines and ointments.
  • 12 – Day Room – Those visiting patients of the hospice have free use of this space.
  • 13 – Kitchens
  • 14 – Ward – This semi-private space is where patients who need to stay on site for a short period are housed.
  • 15 Private Rooms – Those who require a longer stay at the hospice are housed in the private rooms.
  • 16 Reception – The hospice is open to all, but regular demand means appointments usually have to be made in advance. This is the first point of contact for any prospective patients.
  • 17 Doctors Office
  • 18 Counselling Chambers – Not all illnesses are of the body, the hospice also helps those who have issues that are better solved through conversation and reflection.
  • 19 – Surgical Theatre – Operations are carried out in these rooms.
  • 20 Recovery Room – Patients are monitored here post operation before moving to the Ward.
  • 21 – Pool Lobby – The swimming baths are open to the public, but all who use them must check in and out.
  • 22 – Swimming Bath – A large open pool of cool water direct from the oasis. Stairs lead up to 24
  • 23 – Sauna and Jacuzzis – A heated pool of bubbling water in the centre is surrounded by small steam rooms.

Water Temple 03 Roof

  • 24– Roof Gardens  - After a soak in the pool, some come here to dry off in the sun and enjoy the view of the oasis. It is particularly popular at night.

THIS IS AWESOME. I just wish there was a Foundry VTT version of this, as I have an encounter planned here this Saturday. Nonetheless this is rad! It's kind of cool how the layout ended up very close to how I was imagining it and explaining it to my players. Very cool!

Hi Everett, thanks so much! Sorry the FVTT pack wont be out for a couple of weeks, but I hope you and your players have fun using the maps.

This is gorgeous! I love the idea of it not being just a temple, but a hospital, which is very fitting for a desert setting. The central chamber in the meditation level looks like it'll make a very cinematic boss arena. The surf on the beach is an excellent touch -- I can practically hear the beach!
