Background

After the fabled ‘Battle of the Dragon’ where a sandstorm eradicated an invading army, this carved pillar of jet-black stone was found outside the city walls, uncovered by the raging winds. It was bought inside and stands now as a shrine to the desert. When the Sun strikes the obelisk directly, its dark exterior seems to glisten with a vivid rainbow of colours. The Order of the Magi believe it to be an ancient arcane device but have had no luck in unlocking its mysteries.

The ‘Sunstone Obelisk’, as it is known, was actually a central part of a Temple of the Sun that stood in the desert many centuries earlier. The mystics who dedicated themselves to the Temple were said to have some power of the passage of time. Although not able to alter its course they could see into the past, and the strongest among them could even bring objects from the past through time with them to the present.

In the many years since the great Battle and the city’s true founding, the Sunstone Obelisk has been slowly drawing power from the desert sun to bring the Temple itself through time to reside below the rock upon which the Obelisk stands. Almost complete, the Temple now waits for someone to enter and return it to the Suns light.
