Background

Father Thomas Bennett and his wife Dora arrived with the first group of travellers to the site that has become the town of Driftwood. Drawn not by the promise of riches or adventure, they came instead to provide peace and aid to the rest of the community. They built the church at the head of the main street, and next to it a schoolhouse for the local children and a small home for themselves. With what little money they had remaining, they also had a water pump constructed on the land and gave the water freely to the community.

For many years they lived happily. Despite the relatively grey morals and lack of religion of most of the townsfolk, Father Bennet’s sermons were well attended due to his charisma and kind nature, and Dora’s classroom was always a place of laughter and learning. However, a couple of years ago a plague swept through the region taking the lives of many, including Dora Bennett.

Thomas buried his wife in an enclosed tomb by the church and became much quieter and more sombre. He would spend hours at a time alone in his wife’s tomb. He gave over their home as an orphanage for the children of those who had also died during the plague, no longer willing to enter the building his wife died in. Even now he is clearly still affected by her loss. His skin has become sallow and sunken, his eyes almost yellow.

A new spate of unexplained deaths in the area have led to an increase in funerals and burials at the church. It seems every day, father Bennett is digging a new grave. Unbeknownst to the townsfolk, Bennett believes he has found a way to bring his wife back. The tomb does not in fact hold his wife’s body, but instead leads to a hidden cavern below where he discovered some ancient looking texts while digging her grave. In them he found instructions on how to raise the dead, and has been preparing ever since. Now he is ready he needs to practice on other corpses first to ensure it works, but unfortunately people haven’t been dying quickly enough lately, so he has had to take matters into his own hands.

Any chance of a stand alone school house? I need one for Ostenwold but do not need another church. It would be good if it had accommodation for the teacher as well.

Hi Paul, there are standalone versions of each building in the Patron pack for this map set. The upstairs part of this map has accommodation for the teacher.
