After battling their way through the traps and fortifications of the Entrance halls, the party will probably be looking for somewhere relatively safe to hole up for a rest. Numerous residential areas fill much of the sprawl of underground tunnels, each centred around an enormous sunken plaza. During the city's heyday, this space was used for civic celebrations, concerts, markets, parades and all manner of community activities. Now they are often inhabited by the caverns larger intruders.

The party may be able to sneak their way around without waking whatever slumbers in the darkness, plundering what little is left in the shops and homes around the perimeter. Most of the citadel is still intact due to the incredible durability of the dwarves architecture, but there is always a chance that some other, less humanoid creatures have had the same idea.
