High Seas

Schooner

The schooner is a light ship, capable of spending a few weeks at sea with a small crew. Although primarily used for cargo, passenger transport or fishing, they are often fitted with small cannon and used as coastal patrol vessels.

It is also small and fast enough to sneak through enemy patrols where large ships would struggle. The shallow hull and gaff-rigging also mean it can travel through shallower waters, ‘skipping’ along the surface.

Man O’ War

The Man o’ War is a formidable warship, the pride of any navy. Known for its looming size, intense firepower, and commanding presence on the high seas it can immediately turn the tide of a battle simply by its presence.

Over 200 feet in length with three towering masts, this ship is rigged with an array of sails that allow it to harness the wind with incredible efficiency. The hull is constructed from the strongest oak, reinforced with iron bands. Gunports bristle with rows of heavy cannons ready to unleash devastating broadsides.

The decks are bustling with activity, housing a crew of several hundred sailors and officers, all trained to maintain and operate this floating fortress with military precision. It has sufficient stores and resources aboard for months at sea, and enough raw materials to replace or fix any parts damaged in battle. If you spot one of these on the horizon, it may already be too late.

Hideouts & Lairs

Sea Hag Lair

The hull of this old ship is wedged beneath a naturally formed sea arch, known to many local fishermen as a landmark to avoid. However, there are rumours that the vessel was carrying a cargo of valuables before meeting its end. While there have been attempts to retrieve the treasure, none have ended well and those few that were able to return spoke only of the overwhelming stench, not the glitter of gold.

Into the Wilds

Gone Fishing 01

This months Into the Wilds collection is a collaboration with 'Why Slay Dragons when you could be FISHING' from IO Publishing. 'Why Slay Dragons' is a comprehensive Fishing ruleset compatible with 5e that includes new races, subclasses, magic items, and even MORE fishing tables.

  • Lakeside Camp - This picturesque camping spot seems ideal for a nights rest, or maybe even a few. It seems strange that is not more commonly used, especially with the fantastic fishing on offer. I doubt it has anything to do with the enormous shadow below the water in the centre of the lake.

  • City Pier - The sound of Fishmongers shouting their fresh wares is almost enough to drown out the ambient rush of the city. This is a favourite fishing spot for amateurs and professionals alike, and the various stalls and shops set up nearby will sell everything you need and buy anything you catch.

  • Fishing Boat - This vessel used to go out every day to catch fish commercially. Now, just like its owner, its a little past its prime and not quite as fast as it used to be. Instead it is hired out to groups and tourists to do a little sea fishing in some of the best fishing spots along the coast. It even has diving gear for those brave enough.

  • Fishing Shack - This shack out in the wetlands is hard to find, but has some of the best fishing equipment available. The swamp outside even boasts some unique fish to catch, but like everything in the area, they can be surprisingly dangerous if not taken seriously.

Water Temple Exterior Scene

The temple does not devote itself to any particular god, but instead to the life bringing, cleansing and healing qualities of water. It houses a free hospice open to the most needy among Samarahd’s society, a tropical garden unlike anything seen outside the Emerald Palace, and luxurious public baths, all of which are funded by generous patrons.

Below the public building are large private meditation chambers. These are reserved for the devout who work in the temple and are also open to the wealthy individuals who fund the facilities. Occasionally, those with life threatening injuries who can’t be treated using traditional means in the hospital are bought below as the waters here are suffused with magical healing properties. Being submerged within them has been known to even bring back the recently deceased.

Hullbreaker for 5e & PF2E

This greatsword is crafted from an odd mix of what seems to be ship parts melded to the jaw bone of a particularly massive shark. The cord-wrapped handle offers comfortable grip and a pommel resembles a crows nest at the top of a ship’s mast. The blade itself is coated in serrated teeth posing a formidable sight to those who would stand against it.

Hullbreaker Shark for 5e & PF2E

While the sea is home to many creatures both wonderful and terrifying, some come with both of those in equal measure. At the very edges of the material plane, chaos warps and twists things into new and sometimes gruesome forms. Appearing above the water as an unmanned, stranded ship, below the water a massive shark lies in wait to draw its unsuspecting pray to them. These creatures are the result of the collision of planes at the very edges of our existence where all manner of things are warped and twisted to be far different than their original form.
