Two facts that might interest you: 1. Vasily Ignatenko's body was so deformed and swollen from the radiation at his funeral that his wife, Lyudmila, said shoes would not fit his feet and his clothing wouldn't fit around his body. You saw in episode 3 at the funeral she's holdings his shoes. 2. While it is illegal to live in the Exclusion Zone, tourists are able to visit the area and explore the ruins of Chernobyl and the deserted town of Pripyat. Tour agencies reported there has been a 40% increase in tourism since the HBO show premiered.

That's a really interesting fact! I think they did well putting it in the show like that then. I recently found out about the second fact, and indeed saw a lot of tourist pictures on Instagram.
