A Little Emperor's Fixing 3 - or ‘When in doubt, use the Gulag to flush the Trouble’ (Akame Ga Kill, Emperor!SI)

A week and things were already less shitty.

Propaganda and good will can muster some crazy stuff out of people when reasonable culprits were raised to the attention of the mass. Honest, his relatives and other members of his clique were lambasted to a faux trial.

The sight of this trial was within the usual execution board that was once used to ‘punish traitors’. This time, the situation was far too different.

People were actually reasonably angry at the ‘guilty party’. Syura and Iokai both looked nervous. They had been roughed up before today, same for the rest of the group- just not as much as Honest.

All of them had a degree of decent clothing that was fitting for prisoners, but Honest was cursed with just some cloth to cover his hideous groin. The rest of his battered body, filled with fresh scars, was in full display for the people to see.

A man that had been belittling their lives and becoming the epitome of the darkness ripping through the Empire- he was now a weak sobbing thing that spoke not and merely shuddered. I was glad that the jailors didn’t show any kindness to their former employer, but now the piece of shit was going to serve his last purpose.

“After hearing all that the investigation has brought, and after realizing that it would be a mistake to grant you an ‘Imperial’ death or anything less than that, I decided that it would only be fitting for a monster to my beloved subjects to be given the cruelty that he groomed out of you all. Rejoice, for his fate is yours to determine!”

At my loud order, two guards moved to pull the former Prime Minister out of his chair and towards the edge of the platform where he was then hurled to the waiting crowd.

Some didn’t act, but others were true animals. It was a violent sight, one I looked away until it was all over. Not a single piece of the dismembered body had persisted, and many of those former Imperial politicians were shouting for mercy or to threaten me.

I gave them similar deaths to their boss by hand picking those groups they abused the most. It was a ruthless scene, one that many would easily label the rise of a dark emperor but…

As the anger softened, the pain was allowed to find reprieve into the realization of revenge, I stood before the edge, no one keeping near with any ill intention as I looked at all of them.

“Today, despite how many lives were avenged, I will remember it with the infamy it carries. For this anger of yours, my dear subjects, is proof that I should have seen this monstrosity before now. That too many lives have been burned away by a man that hardly deserves to be considered one,” I proclaimed with a loud voice, the general silence helping in spreading the news together with people whispering to those that hadn’t heard. “I can’t bring them back, I can’t do miracles, I can’t revert times to be like it was in the good past. But I can make you all a promise. On my name, on my honor, on my life and, most important of it all, the true heart of an empire that had been rotting away from within due to Honest’s influence and depravity! I promise you, my beloved denizens, that a constitution shall be established to enshrine rights. No more shall the strong abuse their powers to suppress the weak. No more shall there be deviancy among nobility against those they deem ‘peasants’. No more injustice, for I will be a just Emperor. I promise you, my beloved denizens, today is the first step of a Grand and Most Glorious Reformation for the Empire. Gone shall be the shadows, for the shining light of truth and prosperity shall shine for you all! Long Live the Empire, Long Live the Imperial People!”

No ‘Emperor’ there as it felt narcissistic, but also because it drove my populist tone straight through and gained the full scope of a standing ovation from the several thousands rallied for the event.

The ‘New Imperial Age’ would be coined from that day, and I would bask in some relief for the ensuing days as our efforts to lessen the rebellion’s terrorism had yielded some positive results.

As I was soon back to my room to check on new paperwork from my newly-formed government, smiling at the economic upturn expected to unfold with the new public works meant to improve infrastructures and the yield of the fields for the year… I turned to the individual sitting on the edge of my bed.

“Have you spotted any of them?”

“A few curious eyes, yes,” The quiet voice owned by Kurome, my newest bodyguard, filled the room with some clarity.

The little sister of Akame, Kurome was a bit of a curious bag of mixed feels. While her backstory was sadge as fuck, she had been hardcore brainwashed due to her dependency to the drug she was stuck with. She was immensely loyal, but mostly due to the fuckery done to her brain through the drug.

When I hired her, my point was to slowly lessen the burden of that emotional shit. She was competent for the job, but I had her immediately started on some cures to get most of that ugly shit pumped out of her body at a reasonable pace without damaging her body. Therapy was experimental, but the few tentative steps had shown an increase in emotional displays.

Nothing too sudden, but enough to give some hope she can be eventually fully cured. And on this occasion, Kurome had been asked to go and check for any familiar faces on the Rebellious Side of the Empire.

I had expected some ‘curious onlookers’, mostly because I had to prove with deeds I was up to do some good within the Empire. And I knew this was also going to drive a wrench in some people’s plans to try and radicalize our troublemakers.

“I hope they will bear full truths and nothing unpleasant,” I thought aloud. “So, how’s your day?”

“Beyond having to hold myself from whacking your head for standing before so many dangerous strangers to give a speech, my Emperor?”

The sass was a side effect of the cure, which tended to lead to some mixed situations.

“My apologies for worrying you then, Kurome. It wasn’t my intention,” I pleaded innocently, but the girl’s flat look hardly showed any change as I finished checking the papers. “So, how are you?”

I usually didn’t press much on this, but I could see her hand twitch in an odd pattern.

“I am… fine.”

And there’s reason to press more on it.

“Kurome, do you remember what I told you-”

“My Emperor, I am not broken.”

“Did I say you were broken?” I asked with a frown, arms crossing to my chest. “I know better than to tell such a lie. Plus, the reason I am asking is about your wellbeing as the drug is experimental, you dolt. If I am asking if you are well, it is because I know you may end up feeling slightly weird. Are you?”

“A-A bit.”

A touch of authoritative tone seemed to get Kurome truthful.

“Is it about your hand?”

The girl slowly nodded. “It twitches a bit.”

“You should get the doctor to check it. He will give you a prescription to lessen any developments,” I answered logically. “And, Kurome?”

She was already walking up to the door, unwilling to refuse my orders despite her own thoughts on the matter, but stopped as I asked her.

“Yes, my Emperor?”

“If you want to cuddle up tonight like yesterday, I will not say no to that.”

She blinked for a moment, then slowly nodded as a smile perked on her face.

“I-I wouldn’t mind that.”

Ah yes, nothing can beat cuddle-sleeping with a person in need of love after a rather tedious week. If only Kurome could stop groping me in her sleep…
