Great interview with Brian Mier. As far as the Dems and single-payer healthcare go, the answer is easy, but doing it is not easy. There's definitely no "one weird trick" that a small number of Dems in the House are going to be able to do to remove profit-maximizing incentives from a sector that is nearly 20% of the US economy. It's not going to happen as part of a leadership fight. It isn't going to become a reality without winning a lot of elections over multiple cycles either on the single issue. The problem right now is that regardless of what individual members want in their hearts, the balance of power even within a single party's primaries is heavily weighted to the industry. The critical mass for the policy will likely come when this becomes a reliable litmus test in both parties primaries (not just in one party). Political education is clearly part of the equation. People need to understand that there is an alternative. I suspect the labor movement will need to be as well. But there is no easy or quick fix.
