Been meaning to ask this, but what are your thoughts on Republicans refusing to participate in debate? Most recently Charles Booker debated an empty glass of water because Rand Paul refused to show up and instead released an attack ad calling Booker “violent.” I get that, for many, debates don’t make much of a difference in their voting decisions. But at the local level, Republicans having to answer for their failures should be the bare minimum to participate in the democracy they claim to want to protect. But I am open to it if it means people in power be held accountable to the public.
