It’s the dawn of a new review as I get to talk about Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget. As it is the sequel to the highly beloved Chicken Run, I discover in this review that just because Ginger and Rocky’s last adventure was great, that doesn’t mean we needed a sequel.

How’s the Best and Worst list coming along?

Joshua Copelan

I was nervous that this was unnecessary, and I guess you were right. I wonder when I have to ask the question. When is a movie ip truly over and when is it necessary for a sequel? I mean that movie was 23 years ago and I think it aged like fine wine (minus the bitter after taste of a certain actor), and when I heard about this sequel I went, "okay?" to "really, you're doing that in this film? You're bringing Mrs. Tweedy?" and now that it is out it is such a disappointment. But when hearing this review, I would say this was a solid analysis. In fact with the characters the way you talked about it in your podcast and showcasing Julia Sawalha in why she still had it and was addressed about some ageism in this review, I would have been on her side as well. But for the other replacement for Rocky, I am Jewish and I am glad they got rid of Mel Gibson cause we don't need that in the industry, let alone having bigots be a part of a family friendly movie. But it does feel like a big d'oh after Zachery Levi made his anti-vaccine comments. It really does not paint a good look on Levi. But even at that I also wonder what is going on with the filmmaking industry when they are not properly addressing plot holes and being clever with them in the writing. Are they really going to rely on nostalgia to carry this? Well it ain't working on me. For one, I do like Mrs. Tweedy cause she was such a good villain, but I mean Mrs. Tweedy was crushed by a barn door and it is addressed that no one knew how she survived? Look I get that this is a movie made for kids and I would never put a movie down like this, but when you have a massive plot hole like that, I will not let it slide. But anyways I hope this is the last film of the year and I can't wait to see the top 5 best and worst films of the year cause I am curious of your overall thoughts Mat, and what to expect for 2024. I will be curious of an upcoming sequel and for you to go "oh no not again, Oh No Not Again, OH NO NOT AGAIN!"
