Patreon is or wants to be the morality police. Another popular hosting site has no anti-artistic policies (and a better billing policy for credit card holders).

Patreon is running scared of the religious right in the US, who have a disproportionate influence on their major revenue streams. This does not include adult games, despite some devs making huge amounts monthly. By making high profile moves against 'immoral' content, they are securing their revenue base. Be under no illusion: the thought police will go after other hosting platforms. Once a hosting service gets on their 'moral radar', it becomes harder to shake off the Rottweilers they deploy.
