Heya,

I ll start first and you probably know what I have to say. Another release, another disappointment. C4D is my go tool, everyone here knows how much I love using it. I thought about being silent about it but i m so excited about every new c4d release only to get frustrated immediately after.

I still remember presenting in IBC 2019 with R20 feeling so confident about mograph stuff. But last 2 years, updates fall in the area of UVW, interface, an asset browser (that you cannot direct it to a path in your hard drive?!) Experimental scene nodes (noone knows if this is gonna work and expand in all areas of c4d), changing viewport technologies, starting our own render engine (only to abandon it 1 release later), magic bullet (?!) and mixamo mocaps. I probably forgot improved bevels. What about existing Cineversity tools masked as "new features"? eg. the illustrator stuff.
A force field and a scatter tool, simply doesn't cut it. How far can someone go with force field when dynamics are still ancient? You see me struggling from time to time in patreon content, cause simply our beloved software cannot hold it together. Always looking for ways to "hack" c4d instead of being creative. Check out my friend's Mikhail patreon. He's so good at bending c4d. Yet how many people are as smart as he is? We all waiting on a good "tutorial" to demystify cloth or grains or just offsetting keyframes.

Maxon reminds me of Adobe more and more these days. Messing up with pricing models more frequently, promising but not delivering. Same time Houdini is miles ahead, Unreal engine is travelling with the speed of light and Blender is becoming kinda popular.

Not saying c4d aint great. Far from it. Its a very powerful tool. I just think there is an elephant in the room. This has also a negative impact on Xparticles besides the great dev efforts, I feel c4d is limiting XP big time. Many people blame xp about performance, but have you realised that some parts of XP are actually multithreaded and viewport cannot even play back? And what is actually multithreaded in c4d? Almost nothing. I have people asking me about building a new pc. "Threadripper or ryzen?"  "Intel 10900k" is the reply, unless you into Houdini.

What lead me to start Houdini at 41 years of age honestly? When scene nodes introduced in c4d one year ago. I said to myself "There it is, if you wanna learn something new, learn something that is consistent (Houdini) and not something that doesn't have a clear roadmap".

I am gonna upgrade C4D after wrapping a project that I currently am and see what future holds. Same time I will keep up Houdini studies, cause I feel that the motion design industry landscape is changing rapidly.

Are you gonna do same? Let me hear your thoughts :)

ps. i love those heated debates from time to time heh
