Hello friends, :>

Today i would like to talk about some changes i would like make to the current patron rewards and feral tester system.

The goal of this change is to make the current rewards more distinctive and also more rewarding for patrons and also to improve the overall quality of public releases.

The biggest change would be to make FERAL supporters(2$) rewards more beneficial by adding a stable release of FeralIsland every three months. I know many people think that 10$ is a lot of money for the nightly builds and I agree on that. The reason for this change is also to make the stable build a bit more affordable for supporters. Those stable builds will be slightly behind the latest nightly builds. My plan is to release the first stable build for FERAL supporters in mid of march. Those builds will not include the developer-sandboxes of the last public build and the stable builds will be around one month behind the nightly builds.

FERAL testers(10$) will be patron rewards with developer-sandboxes added to their nightly builds. They are also the most recent builds of course. The latest public release is giving a nice clue of what exactly that would mean. One developer-sandbox that was recently added was the kennels with procedural animations for example. I am also planning on adding the fluid system that I am working on as a future developer-sandbox. Since the testing island of FeralIsland was created a long time ago we are also hitting a point, where I think it would be nice to add the island to the game. But i would like to finish some things first before putting it into a nightly build. For example walk and run animations .... since an island release only would make sense when you would be able to walk around as a feral of course. :>

I would also like to change the current three month per public release time frame. In a way that the release will be announced when certain bigger development landmark is met and not just every three month like it was intended to be like before. Releasing something for free every three months is of course a nice thing but it takes away the purpose of the patron rewards for the certain release month as well. And this can be frustrating for my patrons as well as for me. The three months release plan will probably come back, when I work full-time on this project but it will have a gradual delay like stable builds have to nightly builds.

Because of the latest public release being on the same version as the latest nightly build, the public release also had a lot of bugs in which most of them gladly got hotfixed already. But this is something that i would like to avoid for the next public release. The changes in the tester system would mean, that the public release will run through two quality assuring instances which should be much better for the user in the long run.

These changes are not written in stone yet. So i would like to know, what you think of those changes first. I will make this post public. To be as transparent as possible.

This is all from me, for now. :>

Cheers

Ryan

I don't know man. Not only are you punishing people who already give you money, you're basically ostricizing them on the grounds that they don't or can't give enough. Maybe you need to be open and honest and just state you only want a specific supporter tier, like only accepting $10.00 a month supporters. That way we folks who decided to offer you some of our money at the $2.00 can not be royally screwed with. Admittedly I got on just to offer that support but you do what you want to. I feel like you're blaming customers for offering money in the first place, but then again I get you need to encourage folks to gift higher. Still stinks bro.

Normally I don't reply to things like this but I agree with the Travis on this one. You could add another tier in between the two to smooth it out and also help you add more patrons without making it seem like you are making it seem like you are saying "oh, you can only give 2? Then you only get it x amount of months later after everyone else." I support a lot of game designers and they all have at least 3 tiers to not isolate the patrons and cause them to lose patrons. The one I support the most is making well over 60 grand a month by doing this and making more than one "free" build a year. By doing this move you are basically saying you despise low donors and are going to make them feel like you are doing them a favor for supporting you. Just a suggestion, but hey it is your game but unless you want your profit to stagnate then you really should listen to your patrons more. I would support you BUT after what I have heard from your current supporters I will not waste my money on waiting for stables or even betas. I mean paying 10 for a monthly build is okay, 5 for a month and a half more stable build is pushing it, but 2 for one very 3 months behind everyone else makes them feel like why even support for a beta. Hope you figure out a fair way but like Travis said, right now you seem to be punishing people for being unable to pay more.

>you punish people who already give you money. People who pay 2$ will get a stable release every 3 month. Currently they do not get a stable release. They get a bugged one because the free version they recieve is the same version as the nightly builds. There is currently no quality control because i immediately make the latest nightly build public every 3 month. >Maybe you need to be open and honest and just state you only want a specific supporter tier Thats actually the opposite of what i want. I want more people supporting with 2$. For that reason i would like to have the stable release every 3 months and some time later the public release. This way i got 2 iterations of quality control to squish bugs intead of just releasing the public version a day after the last nightly build. Which is the same as zero quality assurance and a lot of bugs.

>I support a lot of game designers and they all have at least 3 tiers. Could you please link them? :) I need to look into other projects as well. >60 grand a month by doing this and making more than one "free" build a year Which project is that? But this is a good point. I do sadly not make 60 grand. :< ... also i do not work fulltime on FeralIsland. >I mean paying 10 for a monthly build is okay, 5 for a month and a half more stable build is pushing it, but 2 for one very 3 months behind everyone else makes them feel like why even support for a beta you still get the game every 3 months. But the version you will get is polished because more people played and tested it to report on bugs. AND you get an ever more polished free release after the stable release. For people who do not pay at all its still for free. You just have to wait a bit for that free release. There are a lot of game projects out there, that do not even have regular free versions. :(

I was just saying man that a public every once and a while would bring in more patrons tbh. One time a year is a bit well... Yeah that is a bit slow and a bit hard to get new people to join. As for the guys I support look into f95 and others like it I found many on there and I pay 25 for one that is WAY over the top. I just don't want to get the guy in trouble by bringing him people who would report him out of spite like he had to deal with before.

As I stated on discord I appreciate your professional responses and apologize for any unnecessary drama. I just felt threatened that my contributions were being erased as was presented by the display you offered. I want to support your project and I want it to succeed, and I'd fully be behind any diversified support tiers that contribute more to that success and continue to show thanks to those who give to you.

> One time a year Hello Justice. There was a free public build in december and on 31. January. The latest public build even was the same version as the nightly_builds. And not a STABLE build like it was intended to be. Before November i was still enrolled in university which i am gladly now done with.

I am not trying to make you mad at me but I meant BEFORE that date. I am just going by what the general comments on many forums are saying. I just hope you release more than one build for public over the year or they will continue to think that all it will be is once a year like last year. I am not trying to be a troll or a-hole btw I am just saying maybe a vid or screen shots for your would be customers on more than one platform (i.e. Furaffinity) would draw in MORE support to your game is all. I am trying to give you suggestions not throw insults like many people do these days. I have been running 3 shops and maintaining public relations for these shops for years and I am just trying to give you a better way to grab more attention. If you want proof this works search Patreon for WildLife. That will show you what I mean.

Ryproar

I will stop bothering you about this matter so you can work I don't want to cause another bout of drama. Hope it works out for ya.

VR_Ferals

Its fine i prefer honest opinions. ^^ That is the reason why i put this whole discussion in a public channel. To be as transparent as possible. The last year was a though one for me, because I was enrolled in university and had a part time job at the same time. I stopped to update the game publicly because i did not want to generate to much hype for it until I am done with my university. Because i knew i will not have much time. Instead I worked every free time on it basically under the radar for some time. But things have changed now, gladly. :) Also you do not bother me at all. :) Thank you for your honest opinion.
