Hello! If you missed it, I put out my new little animation a week ago. What have I been doing since then? Why, animating a fern frond unfurling!
You could say I've spent an entire week animating one leaf. Or you could say I've spent a week animating 5,329 leaves. Both statements are true!

This isn't for anything specific. I just like ferns, and have often thought they'd probably be really annoying to animate. Turns out- they are! The latter half of this was just clicking on a leaf and then working on something else for 10-20 minutes while my computer tried to select it.

There was relatively little drawing involved- if I'd spent that whole week freehand drawing it all instead of shuffling around lots of copy+pasted assets, would I have a nicer fern? Maybe, I dunno! But breaking it into lots of little steps made for a more interesting process video. So here is a process video!

Now that it's been made, I will probably make some sort of film to put it in- I'm from a pretty ferny corner of the world, and I would like to do more films set in environments I'm personally familiar with, like Throat Notes. Hence I made this fern in the first place!

BUT- I probably won't do that straight away. My more recent short thing, NYLONS, still took a decent while despite being very short, and so before I jump in again I'd like to do a few things with a quicker turnaround, such as loops, or little experiments like this! That way I'll finish more stuff sooner for you fine people to look at on here, and I'll be able to take a few different ideas out for a test drive!

So! Stay tuned for more somethings!!!
