NYLONS (Patreon)

Hello! I did a little cartoon. It's called Nylons, and it's about some cheeky nylon-based lifeforms. I hope you like it!!!!! It's very short, but it was a good opportunity to try out a bunch of new techniques!

I don't want to pick apart the concept too much because it's a little light fun piece, but I'll just say that it's daydreaming a cute ecosystem back into a synthetic environment.
It might also be worth mentioning that my parents were hot air balloonists before I was born, and would fly tourists around the countryside and land in random paddocks and hope the farmers wouldn't mind. As I said, I wasn't born in time for all that, and it probably wasn't anything like what I've drawn here, but there's some of the personal associations going on in this one.

I'd recommend watching this in 4k if your internet can handle it. I did some convoluted bitmap stuff to add some gentle stippling to all the soft blurs and gradients, in a way that was neat and patterny like a cross-stitch, instead of, say, the grimy dirty film grain on something like Throat Notes.
All my tests to how that clashes against video compression have been geared for Vimeo because that's where I host my WIPs, but over this next week before it officially releases I might be running some tests to see how YouTube handles it, and if I need to, tweaking some stuff on a pixel level to get it to retain my little dots properly.

The video will publicly come out on YouTube in about a week, and at the same time it drops on YouTube, I'll be putting up a download link for all of you with a super crisp nice ProRes version (if you don't know anything about video codecs then good, they're really boring, but it's the sort of quality you can play at a film festival, and the nicest quality version I can usually be bothered rendering out at all).

Lastly, credits! If you've been in the Secret Council or Pen Pal tiers at any point while the film has been in production, your name should be in there (I apologise if you've just signed up in the last day or two since I finished making the credits, you'll definitely be in the next thing!)
For many of you, the only name I know you by is your Patreon username, which may or may not be your preferred name, so if you're in there but not by the name that you want (or your parent/guardian registered your account and I have their name instead)- let me know soon, and I can fix it before the video goes up on YouTube next week!
