Hello all! I wanted to share a little bit of visual development regarding a character in the film. I haven't made her FINAL design yet, but I'm a couple of shots away from her being introduced, and so I'm thinking about her again. She is a common brushtail possum, and will probably be the closest thing to the "main character".
These sketches are all from around mid-2018. I had animated a teeny bit of the frog film at the start of the year, but I didn't know what to do with it, and it was just sitting there. When I first started drawing these possums I don't think I knew they would end up in the frog film, but I very quickly decided, and several other unrelated ideas I didn't know what to do with all fell into place too.

Brushtail possums are very common backyard animals. Generally, when you spot one they are in the dark, up a tree, facing you front on. So as a child, I always misread their hairless pink snouts as being upright, human-like noses, which gave them the impression of being like little nocturnal tree people. All this development was brought about by trying to expand upon that initial (sadly incorrect) impression.

The final design in the film will be wearing a big sunhat (like the top-left drawing in the 9th picture) because she'll be out during the day and I don't want her to hurt her big night-time eyes.

Hey Felix, how long will this animation run? Longer than Double King?

Dr. Boyfriend

You need a nature documentary voiceover add for this video.
