A snippet from today's Nanowrimo -

“So they want us to follow our stories. Because…why?”

“Because they’re heavy believers in destiny, I think,” Fae said. “Because we’re all in the exact same place at the exact same time, they assume that their existence alongside ours means the things they wrote are bound to repeat themselves. And because they feel a sense of ownership over these tales, they’re desperate to see them play out in the way they want.”

Flannery shuddered, a cold chill running down her spine. “That’s so gross.”

“Indeed. But we’ve banded together against them. There’s not much we can do, but we can protect ourselves. Your magic will help protect you. Use it.”

Flannery nodded, hands clenching into fists under the table. Was that really what this summer was turning into? A fight for her life? Red Riding Hood survived some versions of her story, but did she survive in the Grimm version? Flannery wasn’t sure. The Grimm brothers sure liked punishing their heroines and the people around them in terribly gruesome ways. Did they actually want whoever the wolf was to kill her? Or for the wolf to be killed to save her and Granny? She didn’t even know who the wolf was supposed to be. She had a hunch who their woodsman was supposed to be, but she could always be wrong. God, she was starting to think working a food service job was going to be the easy part of this summer.
