Thanks so much for backing this Patreon. I recognized a lot of your names, many of you have been with us for quite a while and it's really nice to see all of you here. I promise to make this place fun and interesting and worth your time and attention. And I look forward to sharing my art, writing and opinions with you in a way I can't on my other social media sites. I plan to post about all our projects, although there are a few that I can't go into in great detail for contractual reasons. But I hope to toss some stuff out there that even some of you long-time readers haven't seen. Some of it will be embarrassing as heck (I found my original Pirate Corp$! series bible, ye gods, it's worse than looking at high school photos).

And of course, there's always the new projects. Sarah and I are working on a new Beasts of Burden series with artist Benjamin Dewey and letterer Nate Piekos (Ben's on issue #2 now), and I'm writing a new Blackwood arc for Veronica and Andy Fish (they're starting on the second issue).  I contributed four pages of Fun Strips to the Heavy Metal spin-off, Soft Wood, and Sarah and I did writing work on the recently-released Contra: Rogue Corps game from Konami. We're collaborating on a script for an unannounced comic project, and a weird job possibility just fell into my lap this week. The pitch is in, we'll see if it's a hit or a foul tip. Oh, and we've been doing a few covers -- variant covers, to be precise -- which many of you know I railed against for many years. After turning down a number of offers I realized that all I was doing was losing money for my family.  Variant covers is not a hill I'm going to die of starvation on. If you can't beat 'em, invoice 'em.

I'm finishing up the inks on my fourth cover this week. My first variant was for Rafer Roberts' and Mike Norton's Grumble series from Albatross. Then Sarah and I did two covers for our DHC projects (one sent off a few days ago), and now I'm doing one for -- I can't say. It's a pretty cool project. I still don't feel like I know how to design a strong cover, but I'm going to keep trying as long as I'm asked.

I'll start dropping posts here more regularly once NYCC is in the rear view mirror.  We haven't done any conventions at all this year, circumstances kept us at home, and to be honest, we weren't asked to do that many shows in the first place. We were set to do last week's CXC but had to cancel several months ago -- which is a shame, because I loved being there in 2017. I hope we can go back sooner rather than later.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to NYCC as it's a rare opportunity for me to meet with readers and friends this year. And look at toys, comics, pulps, books and original art. And get hit in the face by a few dozen backpacks, six or seven swords and at least one pair of extended wings.  NYCC is definitely the most crowded show I've ever been to.

If any of you will be at NYCC this week, here's our schedule:

They may even have a few Eltingville Club lunchboxes. And fyi, Sarah and I will be happy to sign anything you bring that we worked on.

Okay, there goes the first post. They'll get more interesting.

Thanks again for being here!
