Currently still on vacation!

CHANNEL UPDATE

Not much to update this week. Our last video on Gallants is doing surprisingly well, despite being a video about a film not many people have seen. Really goes to show how unpredictable the YouTube algorithm can be.

Our next video will come out in a few days. If you haven't, check out our script preview. In the provided note, I did a minute-to-minute notation/analysis of the film Ringu.

Vacation ends in a little over a week. Postproduction for our short film will begin immediately. I'll also share some editing previews on here. Although it'll be a rather slow process. Still, I hope it'll be fun for you to be part of the journey as well!

MEDIA TALK

I watched Central Intelligence, a 2016 film featuring The Rock and Kevin Hart.

Yeah, I don't have a lot to talk about this week. But the movie is actually pretty good, so I'm not being a complete fool for talking about it.

It's kinda crazy to realize this movie is 6 years old, and was actually made before the Jumanji remake. In fact, I think the amazing chemistry between The Rock and Kevin Hart is the reason they were in Jumanji together.

In the film, Kevin Hart plays a kindhearted man who stood up for a bullied student in high school. 20 years later, this bullied kid become The Rock, a CIA agent on a rogue mission. To save the world, The Rock seeks the help from Hart, now an accountant whose life peaked in high school.

One of the more notable things in the film is how both actors play against type. Not a huge departure from their usual roles, mind you. The Rock plays a big doofus who once was a big fat nerd. And despite being in the body of jog, he is still an upbeat adventurous kid. It's a well written, charismatic character that was executed somewhat well by The Rock, although far from his best performance (which is Jumanji 2, in which he plays Danny DeVito).

Hart, on the other hand, plays a kind, subdued man who gets roped into a crazy adventure. It's not often you see Hart in the straight man role. He's usually such a cartoon character, it's rather refreshing to see him in a more relatable light. Hart can act, and I would love to see more of him in serious roles.

While light on plot, the film takes time with each and every scene, making sure to provide at least some good laughs. It also has a few notable cameos from fellow comedians, and their inclusions makes the film just that much more fun. I won't spoil them here, in case you want to watch it.

While not as funny as the best buddy come comedy like 21 Jump Street, Central Intelligence is ultimately a fun movie. It's also a type of movie that I wish film discourse has more room for. It may not break new grounds. It's also not so bad that it makes you angry. It just brings you a lot of joy. A lot of time, that's all I need when I'm going to a movie.

Also, it reminds us all that The Rock is a legit comedian.

Anyway, that is the update for this week. Did you watch this movie? Do you enjoy watching movies like this one, just B-movies that are well done and entertaining, but not groundbreaking? In any case, I'll see you with a new video in a few days!

... okay, you've convinced me to watch this movie, which I'd never have expected anyone to do. Thanks!
