A new month is upon us, a lot of new things are happening. Whatever you do, please remember to stay safe. Just because 2021 is approaching, does not mean all the crisis we are experiencing will magically go away.

Remain vigilant, and let's all fixes everything one at a time!

ABOUT THE CHANNEL

  • Next episode, as planned, we'll be taking a break from out horror series, and take a look at the newly released Mulan. I wasn't particularly excited about the film, since I wasn't a massive fan of the original like many are. Yet somehow the new film managed to pissed me off to no end. So, yeah, it's gonna be a fun one. Expect some swearing.
  • Afterward, we'll take a look at a country with great horror films that are often overlooked by the world: Thailand. Haven't decided which horror film to cover specifically, but I have a few in mind. If you have a recommendation, feel free to share!
  • Finally, community captions will be going away this month. YouTube redirects everyone to use an external website for the process. It's free, as far as I know, and everyone can participate, so I'll be highlighting that starting the end of this month.
  • Sincerely thank you for providing all the community services! I'll be making edits to existing captions to properly credit all users involved.

ABOUT MEDIA

  • Upon finished writing the script for our upcoming Mulan video, I realized something. The best thing that motivates my writing... is anger. Specifically, spite. So, let's talk about movies that makes us angry. Well, movies beside Mulan.
  • My first attempt at writing a feature script was, in parts, fuelled by my frustration with the movie "Kidnap", starring Halley Berry. It is quite literally a moment of "I can do better than this", and so I did.
  • It's a movie about a mother who saw his son being kidnapped, and the only way to save him, is for her to chase behind them in her car.
  • The movie is god awful. It can't decide if it wants to be a realistic thriller, or an epic car chase action movie, so it just sucks at both. Also, for a thriller, it lacks any tension, even if the movie tries really hard to convince you otherwise.
  • In one scene, Halley is forced to drive away from the kidnapper's car, or else they will kill the son and dump him. Halley drives away for like, 2 minutes, and then comes back because she has a changed of heart of something. And the movie just pretends nothing happened.
  • Oh, and in case you are curious, my script is now 80 pages in. I postponed it, though, as I realize the production cost went way above 1 million.
  • Another movie that got me quite frustrated was Alien Resurrection. Surprisingly not Alien 3, right? That's because I accidentally saw the alternate cut, which improved the movie greatly. I also love the atmosphere of Alien 3, it feels suffocating and depressing, perfect for the series.
  • Alien 4, on the other hand, has some major tonal issues. It went from a horror/war film into an over the top action film, similar to the superhero movies of the late 90s.
  • I remember I was angry as soon as Ripley is somehow in this movie.
  • Similarly, the relatively recent The Predator makes me facepalm real hard. I don't even remember what happened in that movie, because throughout the entire film, all I can think of is... Didn't we already have a pretty good Predator sequel, starring Adrien Brody?

So what movies made you angry or frustrated? Batman and Robin doesn't count!

Anyway, back to work I go, and I'll see you in the next video!

I'm Thai and really excited that you're doing Thai horror episode. The obvious one is "Shutter" with the horrible Hollywood remake. I haven't seen many Thai movies since then. The funny thing about Thai "ghost" movies (หนังผี) is they tend to be a comedy instead of horror. Even a rom-com sometime contains a "ghost" comedic segment in it. (All of these are from my 90s-00s memory so things might have changed since then.

Ironically Batman and Robin doesnt make me angry or frustrated at all. I actually love Batman and Robin because its a silly movie thats fun to watch and enjoyable for what it is.
