Synopsis/Description:

I challenged @letterabcd to a particularly tricky manueuver in Smash Ultimate, with a pic by me as their reward.
As you might have guessed they pulled it off with as much aplomb as their OC Lucetta is pulling off this maid/mermaid combo!

Timelapse Here!

The Rant:

So, a few days ago, I was playing some Smash bros, and at the tail end of the night, I challenged the local "best player" Letterabcd to perform a few fun challenges for me. See, Letter is awesome at the game, but one of the few characters they are self-professed not proficient in is my main, Luigi. Mostly because Luigi plays like a character who shouldn't work... unless you know what you're doing....

In particular, Luigi has two moves that require either a LOT of precision or a lot of luck to make work, and I challenged Letter to two conditions:

  • Land three fire jump punches in the same match (if you don't hit the attack on Luigi's fist, you're a sitting duck for approx. 4 seconds)
  • Win the match with a misfired green missile (1 in 12 random chance of hitting, while needing the opponent to be at death percentages)

As you might have guessed by the existence of this pic, Letter pulled it off!

I'll have to make the challenges harder next time.

TBF/TBH, I don't normally issue these kinds of challenges, because it doesn't end well for anyone involved (usually, one party ends up feeling stiffed for the effort they put in). However, it was cool in this instance cuz I like Letter and I'd been meaning to do some stuff with their gal Lucetta for a while. (Also, I did fully expect that Letter would be able to complete the challenge, because Letter is actually better than me, even if my Luigi would probably stomp his Luigi).

As for the pic itself, Letter submitted their gal, Lucetta. Lucetta admittedly doesn't pop on my radar as much as I'd like because her only real major kink is getting hypno-ed, and nothing beyond that (not even nudity, as far as I know). That's not a bad thing; it just means I need to get more creative.

This is/was one of those pics where the conception of the idea was more difficult than the execution. You can see it in the timelapse; there were a TON of false starts before the final pic came together, but once I said "screw it, let's go with the monthly theme," it all came together beautifully!"

In terms of process beyond that, there's not much else to say. Thanks to figuring out how to sketch at a lower resolution, I didn't have much pressure to get all of the crazy hatchlines and gradients of my regular higher res/quality stuff, though I did get to try some crazy image-effect stuff for her face and for the water.

I, admittedly, don't have many concrete plans for Mermay, but if things continue the way they do, I might not need to!

What do you think?

Impressive, I did see the false starts. Nice end from a wobbly beginning! Also, the bet is hilarious. I never could do diddly with Luigi, but then, I never owned the game so I'm a casual scrub lol!

It is always interesting to see the failed attempts before getting to the final, and I have to say I was fond of the sketch with the hand on the chin (that really worked for me). But the fine piece still looks amazing, so kudos on entering MerMay with style :)
