Fan-comics: Dominant Dilemmas (Early Access) (Patreon)

Synopsis/Description:

A minor interruption to a chat I was having with a friend on Discord turned into a full mini-comic!  

Hopefully Kelly found her sub, Mikki much more receptive after Mistress Nacha's "helpful advice!"

The Rant:

So, I had planned to work on an animation, but then Mistress Nacha (who I chat with on the regular on Discord) mentioned her sub Kelly having trouble with her (Kelly's) sub, Mikky (Kelly is a switch), her (Nacha's) advice, and all the lightbulbs just clicked in my head as to how it could/would play out:

You have those moments too, right? Where someone just says the right thing, and you know exactly how to make it a thing. There's probably a case to be made about some rando having to pay for a commission from me, while my friends/patrons get free illustrations/comics/pinups, but y'know what?

Fuck 'em.

They should put in the work my friends/Patrons have of getting to know me, and what makes me horny. They should put in the work of propping me up and badgering me for comms. They should put in the work of showing up places I regularly engage in/with and showing they care by commenting/subscribing/favoriting.

They should put in the work of being my friend.

The downside at the time was that my iPad is both my primary art tool in bed and my primary means of typing, so I couldn't actually work on the idea. Can't type and draw at the same time, after all!

So I put it off to the next morning.

In an ideal world, this would be just a sketch comic. But unfortunately, three things kept this from being so:

• My particular "sketching" style doesn't lean towards "finished render with a penciled texture" the way a lot of "sketch comics" work online.
• I'm still not 100% comfortable with Procreate, enough to do "finished lineart sketches."
• My sketch work doesn't tend to do very well in a public space. It's either go 100% or take home nothing.

And while I don't think Nacha would have minded, I'm at a point, career-wise, where I don't just think about the individual clients my work is for, but also the public audience the work has to be for when I post it. Its why I tend to give my "anonymous drones/nabby-dolls" identifying features, even if the point is for the character to be anonymous. If the character is anonymous, then what was the point of using a specific character?

As it relates to this, I knew this at least had to go to line art, and not just stay as sketches. My sketches are just too sketchy. Functional for what I need to do what I do, but not presentable.

This actually took longer than I thought (5hrs) , but in checking the timecode, it actually tracked with my expectations. It felt long because I hadn't actually planned to work on this today, least of all, in bed after waking up. It also felt long because I was careful with my inks. When my setup is 75%+ working, I love inking. But I can approach it wrong in a few ways. Being in a rush, not figuring out my lighting before going to the inking phase, not checking my underlying figures, any number of things. But I was careful here. Established all my anatomy, established my lighting, and then went ham where I could, and where it made sense.

The one major bugbear is/was Nacha and Mikky's curly hair. Because they're brunettes with curly hair, inking it took a bit longer than the rest of the comic. Especially since I gave their hair reflective highlights, rather than just flat inks.  Now I know how Akira Toriyama felt when he created the super saiyan form in DragonBallZ to avoid coloring Goku's hair...

I like how this turned out.
Funny and sexy in equal measure, and not too long to complete. I'd like to do more of these with other characters. Shame Abby doesn't speak; I'm sure she'd be great for these. But speaking of, I need to get back to storytelling with Abby. It's been too long, and there're so many more stories to tell!
