AbbyCapers (WiP-Early Access for Patreon): Sleepy Sheet slip-ups! (Patreon)
Content
(WiP) Via Patreon suggestion:
Abby deserves some rest after a long day avoiding capture... Too bad Nabby's not gonna give it to her!
"Work hard, Play Hard!"
That's how that works, right?
The Rant:
So, KiwiKink, one of my $10 patrons, suggested, during the stream of this comic:
...that their personal headcanon was that "the sheets" were Nabby and it/she was wrapping Abby up instead. I figured that was something Nabby could/would do, and decided to make that canon! Why not?
Which brings to mind an interesting question: should I take suggestions for Abbycapers? Honestly, I'd like to, on occasion. But, like most of my backburned plans, there needs to be "demand" for such an option. I have a lot of ideas that "seem" like good ideas until put into practice. I can see some people being interested, but I don't think most would want to put in that kind of work, or have to pay for that privilege. And its not a privilege I'd like to offer for free either, except to a few peeps I've known and trusted for a while (hence taking Kiwi's suggestion). Its not on the cards yet anyway, though I should probably consider making that a patreon goal with a new tier as a reward? I dunno. Lemme know how you feel in the comments!
Back on the comic: this one was actually a toughie. I knew how I wanted it to start (Abby relaxing in/on the bed) and how to end it (Abby wrapped up in Nabby's "sheets"), but not quite "how to get there" (revealing the bedsheets to be Nabby and having them encase Abby inside them). The downside to my "panel structure" (or rather, lack thereof) is that there's a limited amount of space with which to add characters, and they need to flow into each other organically, from left to right. A traditional panel structure would have mitigated a lot of these issues, but I'm happy with the solution I came up with.
The other rub with conception of this comic was the composition. Specifically the intial establishing scene. Objectively, this comic starts out exactly the same as the last, and while it could make for a fun joke, I don't like the idea of having to read a previous work to "get" the current one (barring direct sequels/prequels) nor do I like the idea of the comics being similar enough that they feel interchangeable, which is a real danger in bondage art, due to the limited number of poses a restrained human figure can take without being painfully dismembered. Hence the new composition. I hope that the darker shade and harsher texture of Abby's new sheeting was a decent enough clue as to the true nature of her new bed.
The other "fun" part of this comic was the rendering. Specifically, coming up with a texture that looked "Dark," with shades, that didn't just look like a "paint-bucket of black" with some white lines for shines/rimlights/texturing. I think its a lot better to have my pencils be super-complex and simplify my inks, than have to come up with solutions around sloppy/simplified pencils, hence why these pencil renderings are so detailed. A lot of my buggery with the sheets in this comic is that I keep my brush size small (for more detail), which makes big splashes of black difficult without LOTS of strokes. Sure I could increase my brush size, but why miss out on an opportunity for detail/abstraction by doing so? I think it works! How about you?
