The Rant:

I'm actually super proud of this one!

For one thing, I've figured out a way to make hatching work in certain aspects of my illustration style (relegate them to the background/use with harder shapes), and they don't clash too much with the lighting or coloring.

For another, the background feels a little more organic than it has previously. I don't think it tops the last AbbyCaper (and I don't think any caper will for a while), but I think it works well enough for this caper.  Something about better integrating the linework, color and lighting with the characters, and the intended mood.

The other thing that's working really great is the line work for Nabby's goopy texture. I don't just want Nabby's encasement to look like manufactured latex, but to feel like something organic and shifty that the victim is still struggling in. To that end, that's where the drip textures come in, and while I like the work I did, I hope you do as well!

I think something that needs working on is the shading for the background. It works for the bushes, but not as much for the trees, because the shadows need to grade/fade into darkness like how the hatching does for the bushes when being hit by light (if that made any sense?) Something for next time!

Well, what do you guys think? Of the techniques in the comic? Or of Nabby herself? Got any naughty ideas or theories for me? Lemme know in the comments!

Nabby's kind of cute, in that 'giant fly-strip that wants to coat you like an oil slick' kind of way. Which I'm now declaring a thing. I can sort of see what you're saying about the shading on the trees, but honestly sometimes shadows do abruptly just end where there's a foldover or what have you, and trees often cause that effect with branches, I feel. The drip effects work excellent, you even made sure tehre aren't too many to avoid a 'runny' look to it. Nicely done! All over a very solid piece!
