The Rant:

Its a little late, but its here! I hope you guys like it; I know I'm super proud of it. Oddly enough the part (from last week) wasn't too hard.  Figuring out struggling animations isn't too hard anymore! Rather the hard part there was figuring out a background that Rae would both fit in, wouldn't require to much work from me, and would mesh well with her color pallet. I'm still figuring out backgrounds (color work doesn't seem to work without it), but I like what I got, and I think the pink-to-purple-to-blue color works and sells Rae's peril.

The fun thing is, these are all puppet animations, too! if you were to look at the Flash File, you'd be able to pull Rae apart based on her various pieces (hair, head, torso, boobs, front tail, back tail) on the different layers. Doing it like this allows me to stash animations inside each other (the different frames), and then add external animations (squash/stretch) on top of them. It also makes it easier to replace assets. Its why the organic and rubber animations are identical (barring the hair, which is too different between compositions to simple keey the same).

As for the transformation itself, that was a little harder to figure out. I didn't want to animate the layer mask frame by frame; I just don't have the time, so I used a motion tween to basically "unhide" the rubber form. At the same time, because Rae bops up and down, it looked like Rae was tranforming and untransforming at the same time, and because of the incongruity with her different hair states, it gave her "floating" hair. Not quite the best. I think creating and animating a glow effect helped hide a lot of that by distracting from the particulars, but its not perfect.

As for part 2 (the endscreen):

I wish I'd storyboarded both sequences properly, because I ended up doing several takes before I found an animation I liked. That's a lot of wasted time. That's kind of the point of storyboarding; to iron out these kinks and figure out logistical hypothetical problems before they become actual problems. I didn't think I needed to because of they're being loops and a short animation at that, but the fact that I'm writing this a day late shows That I probably should.

Anyway, I like the third version of this animation (I don't have any plans for rendering the other two parts). Very expressive despite Rae's predicament!

What do you guys think? More Game overs? let me know!

Great work, really enjoyed this series, and the Game Over concept is a lot of fun :D

It is! Like pretty much everything that isn't an AbbyCaper, though. Gotta figure out a way to organize/optimize it a little better. I'd love to do more, but expanding beyond Abby and the OCs of close friends needs a pipeline of sorts, so that the project isn't delayed by setbacks (i.e. delayed responses, project ending changes, etc)

I like the game over screens, I was a big fighting game and beat-em-up fan in the late 80's and through the 90's. For the project itself I do see some of the flaws you mentioned but I think you did very well for what logically would be a relatively short project. I mean, it wasn't paid work for an actual video game after all! I applaud your ingenuity and thank you for the explanation!
