Howdy, wonderful people!

Another entry in the Questionable Food Choices collection - waffles!  No longer is the kitchen waffle maker the only machine in the house that can make waffles.  These ones will last longer, too!

This tasty stack of waffly goodness is comprised of three main parts: a bottom, an arbitrary number of middles, and a top, and they form a cylindrical container internally in which to store valuable waffle-related things.

You'll have noticed of course that there are some adornments to these waffles!  In addition to a plain waffle middle layer there is a syrup version that has a separately-printed insert for syrupy goodness.  My original version of this was far more restrained in terms of the syrup distribution, but since not much is actually visible once the stack is constructed I decided to go all out with abundant syrup on that middle layer.

For the top layer, though, I didn't really want to have cut outs like the middle, so instead we have an optional magnetically-attached syrup-with-cream-dollop model.

The top waffle has room underneath to insert up to four of our old favourite 6x3mm round magnets, and the syrup model has room for matching magnets underneath.  The cream dollop then threads onto the top of the syrup.  You could of course just glue that together instead of using magnets, but magnets are more fun :)

Print Description

This is a regular mode assembly print with generous tolerances.

For the most part the parts are very straightforward to print, but you'll probably get some messy strands on the underside of the syrup model for the top waffle.  There are some bridged sections and shallow curves that are vulnerable to slicer toolpath choices.  However, apart from potentially needing to remove extraneous strands so that they don't get in the way, there shouldn't be any problems from that.    Those parts are not visible once assembled, and extra clearance has been designed in to those sections where they fit against the waffle itself.

Print Dimensions

The Middle waffle, which is the largest part, occupies 131mm x 131mm on the print bed and is 28mm tall.

Supports Needed?

Not at all!  Designed for straightforward printing!  Read the bit about the syrup for the top waffle under Print Description above, though.

Scalability

You can certainly scale this, though the usual caveats about how well things will fit once scaled will of course apply!

Print Orientation

Everything prints right-way-up!  Even the syrup bits!

Further Thoughts

You'll quickly notice that the threads are designed to put the waffles at an angle to each other when threaded together, but depending on syrup inclusion and the specifics of the print you might end up with an unsatisfactory waffle alignment situation.  Fortunately, there's a spacer model included that's just a flat ring, and it can be scaled arbitrarily in height.  If you print that and put it over the thread you'll change the point at which things tighten, and achieve your waffle positioning dreams!

Happy printing!

xoxo

Sven.

What filament did you use for the waffles?

That's a new PolyTerra gradient: cappuccino! It's what I used on the Kinematic Case, too, and it's lovely! 😍
