Hello, my favourite people!

Dodecahedra!  Pentagons are basically honorary hexagons when formed into this most excellent of solid shapes.  As you can probably tell, this is another expedition into texture land, and this time it's all about bubbles.

These two vase-mode vessels are the inverse of each other - one has inward-poking bubbles, and the other one has them poking outwards.  Because this is vase mode, the interior of each print essentially has the texture of the outside on the other.  Okay, it's not exactly the same, because there are some practical constraints that differ, but they're probably close enough that you'd have to squint really, really hard to spot the difference.

Vase mode is tricky when it comes to curves along the vertical axis.  It doesn't take a particularly steep angle to cause the layers to fail to overlap quite enough, and then the whole thing is a disaster.  Now, I stick to a maximum of forty-five degrees on these things, which is tricky when putting bubbly features on a plane that's already heavily inclined like the ones on a dodecahedron.  So, those features are very much not spherical, but instead are very constrained curves with tangents that remain more than forty-five degrees from horizontal, and then revolved around an axis parallel to the plane.  That way, no part ends up overly shallow, and things print nicely.

Print Description

The Punctuated Dodecahedra are vase mode prints, so set your slicer accordingly!  It might be useful to increase your line width in the slicer for increased strength.  For example, instead of 0.4mm width for a 0.4mm nozzle, try 0.6mm!

Print Dimensions

Each dodecahedron occupies 148mm x 141mm on the print bed and is 121mm tall.

Supports Needed?

Not at all!  Designed for straightforward printing!

Scalability

This is vase mode, so scale away!

Print Orientation

As usual with vase mode prints, this one prints right-way-up.

Further Thoughts

All roads lead to dodecahedra!  I wonder if a dodecahedral lamp could be a thing?....

Happy printing!
