Skullcubes and Skullballs (Patreon)
Content
Skulls, skulls and more abstract geometric skulls!
This one was inspired by - as you've no doubt already noticed - the Neon Skullbox from a short while back. I really liked the way the four-sided skull form worked out, and felt it deserved an existence as a more conventional boxy box. Well, conventional in as much as four-sided skull boxes have a convention to which to conform.
While sketching out this hexagonal-eyed cranium I wondered how a spherical version might work, and so now we have cube(-ish) and sphere(-ish) skull boxes!
Both versions have inset lids with little pull handles in the middle, and which are optionally kept in place with our old favourite, 6x3mm cylindrical magnets. The lid handles intentionally don't extend beyond the top of the lid so that the boxes can sit on top of each other.
Funny thing, it was the lids that took the most time in this design, especially the Skullcube lid. The circular lid of the Skullball worked just fine with vertical sides, but the Skullcube lid was prone to getting jammed up and generally being a pain. So, that's why it has tapered sides, and angled magnets. The angled sides also allowed the lid top to be broader, making access to the handle much easier.
Print Description
These are regular mode prints and are designed for reliable printing. Nothing tricky here!
Optional Magnets
If you'd like to use magnets you'll need four 6x3mm cylindrical magnets (the same ones as usual) for each box.
Print Dimensions
The Skullball occupies 70mm x 70mm on the print bed and is 46mm tall.
Supports Needed?
Not at all! Designed for straightforward printing!
Scalability
Both the Skullball and Skullcube will scale easily, but you'll of course no longer have the right size holes for magnets. If scaling dramatically you might want to size the lid slightly differently to the main body in order to account for the fact that the tolerance between those parts will be likewise scaled.
Print Orientation
Everything prints right-way-up, like so:

Further Thoughts
One cute thing about the Skullcube is that if you have two of them, and think carefully about the orientation of the magnets, you can get the boxes to stick together! :D
Happy printing!
