Ahoy-hoy, wonderful people!  Here we have a couple of updates and extras for the Gothic Hourglass and the Moonbeam Lamp...

Gothic Hourglass Case

As promised, there's a stylish home for the hourglass, and the provision for magnets will now make sense!  This ornate enclosure is sized to allow the hourglass to slide in neatly, thus stopping things falling out the top (but mostly there to just look cool).

The model prints back-down, and that's the side on the left in the following picture.  There's a lot of detail, but it shouldn't be tooooo vulnerable to bed adhesion issues since there aren't "islands" as such, though depending on the slicing algorithm there could still be a bunch of independent perimeters happening on that first layer.  Anyway, you'll still want to make sure that first layer is nice and neat, because it's a very visible part of the case.

Oh look, this particular hourglass has a lid!  More on that below...

So, magnets!  The bottom of the hourglass already has magnet holes for our old friends the 6x3mm cylindrical kind.  The case likewise has points to insert magnets.  It's also possible to fit magnets into the top of the hourglass, and the detail at the top of the posts has a void for that very purpose, but personally, I just used the bottom ones.

In terms of size, this will just fit on the bed of a Prusa Mini (180mm bed), though you might have to look at your priming settings and make sure there isn't a skirt taking up all your available room.

No supports needed, as usual!

Gothic Hourglass with Lid

By popular request, there's now a version of the Gothic Hourglass that features a lid!  I was apprehensive about spoiling the looks of the hourglass, but after much frowning and sticking my tongue out the side of my mouth it's ended up quite stylish, repeating the same motif that sits atop the outer posts, but reproportioned to allow it to be used as a handle to unscrew the lid.

The tricky bit was adding a thread that wasn't too obvious at the top of the hourglass, and that didn't require compromising the existing detail there!  The new hourglass doesn't really look different at all with the lid off, though, so I'm happy :)

Everything else about the hourglass is as before - it's just that upper section that's changed to accommodate the lid.

In case it isn't obvious - the lid will not fit into the original version of the hourglass!  Actually, that's not quite true; it'll fit, but it'll also fall out when you turn it upside-down :P

Clamp Base for Moonbeam Lamp

It's a clamp!  This new base can be swapped in place of the existing lower part for the lamp, and is intended for clamping to something up to about 30mm thick.  There are a few considerations to keep in mind, though:

* This shares a common compromise in printed clamps that have this kind of "C" shape - they flex away from the central support as they're tightened.  I did toy with the idea of adding a second brace (or even a second threaded rod) but that made things very much too complicated.  So, it's a fairly lightweight clamp!  I did toy with the idea of making those clamping surfaces longer, but that would just put more force on the central thread.

* The lamp can be rotated around the clamp to whatever angle before tightening. The two clamping surfaces just sit around the threads and are pushed into the clamp body by the tightening nut.  This also means that if you use this to mount the clamp horizontally instead of vertically you might end up fighting gravity depending on your angle.

This is quite a simple clamp!  The two clamping surfaces are identical and are mounted so that their flat sides face each other.  The clamp body and nut both have conical sections that match up with the other side of the clamping surfaces.

Should the lamp base clamp be printed as the picture shows? I would think it should print as the STL is standing up, but it looks like the layer lines on your print have it printed the way its oriented in the photo. Please clarify. Thanks for another great print as always!
