Hi there, wonderful people!

Nope, it's not a multimaterial print, it's an assembly!  This bowl features voids for separately-printed coloured panels, and the whole thing is kept securely together by a ring that screws down over the top.  If you really wanted to, you could print all the parts in one colour, but that would be far less fun.

The walls of the bowl follow a circular arc - it's essentially a section of a sphere.  The advantage of this is that the inserts have a consistent curvature along their entire length, which is important when things need to slide into place.  This is especially relevant since the inserts slide in on an angle, rather than straight down from the top.  Of course, since the surface is spherical, it doesn't matter which direction the inserts come in from, since the curvature will be the same everywhere.

If you look closely at the green inserts in the photos you can possibly tell I was trying for a subtle gradient.  I was all out of fast-transition graduated filament, sadly, but such a filament would probably work much better than the overly slow transition stuff I used :)

Print Description

This is a regular mode print, and while tolerances are generous you'll still want to avoid things like stringing that might make it hard get the inserts where they need to be.

Note that the curves on the insert apertures have some effectively steep angles, so you might want to slow those bits down to keep them nice and neat.

Print Dimensions

The main bowl body occupies 142mm x 142mm on the print bed and is 50mm tall.

Supports Needed?

Not at all!  Designed for straightforward printing!

Scalability

The Elaboration Bowl should scale up fairly easily - the threaded lid should handle any extra space between the parts.

Print Orientation

The main bowl body prints right-way-up, the threaded rim prints upside-down, and the inserts print on a side edge, like so:

Further Thoughts

Since the Elaboration Bowl has that spherical nature they'll fit neatly into each other, but will also readily rotate, kind of like a ball joint might.  I'm not sure if this is a fun feature or annoyance.  Possibly both :P

Happy printing!

xoxo

Sven.
