Hey there, wonderful people!

Merry festivity-oriented season!  You might remember last year's vase mode baubles, and if so you are probably thinking "needs more dodecahedron", am I right?  Well, fear not, because now we have vase mode dodecahedral baubles!

Now, the big difference between those round ones and these dodecahedral ones is that the upper "face" on these is much larger, which posed some problems with getting hook components to meet in the middle.  So, there's a bunch of trickery going on to keep angles printable in vase mode but still provide a long enough path for the hook bits to meet in the centre.

You can run some cord through that centre part, and if your particular prints don't quite meet closely enough to be secure, there are some barb-type-things there too, to provide some other things to tie only.

There are seven different dodecabaubles, and they all work best with the shiniest filaments you can find!

Print Description and Slicer Hints

These are vase mode prints, so set your slicer accordingly!

My good friends at Filament Stories test printed these and discovered that some of the beta versions of the Arachne slicing engine within PrusaSlicer did strange things with these models.  The latest version of PrusaSlicer has fixed the issue, but if you have a recent-but-not-latest version you might want to go into the slicer settings and turn off Arachne for this print.  Or just upgrade to the latest PrusaSlicer :P

Print Dimensions

Each bauble is around 86mm x 83mm on the print bed and is 67mm tall.

Supports Needed?

Not at all!  Designed for straightforward printing!

Scalability

These will scale up or down readily!

However, the gaps between parallel walls will shrink as the model is scaled down, and eventually the slicer may discard or merge them, which would do interesting things in a vase mode print!

Print Orientation

The baubles print right-way-up with the hooks at the top, like so:

Further Thoughts

These shapes do actually make for a fairly rigid vase mode container, so I also whipped up version that omit the hooks and serve as open-topped containers instead:

Happy baubling!
