Hey there, wonderful people!

Expanded metal mesh is such a clever invention - sheet metal sliced and stretched into that characteristic diamond mesh pattern.  Having a fondness for industrial stylings I wondered if it would be possible to design a printable version, and here we are!

There are five models: two circular and three rectangular.  The rectangular versions came first, and it was a fun exercise working out how to transform that into a rounded shape without causing any serious printing challenges.  You'll still want to be relatively conscious of print settings, but the angles are about as friendly as they can be for this kind of form.

Print Description

This one's a regular style print.  Infill won't make too much difference since this will be mostly perimeters anyway.

There's nothing especially tricky about this one, but there is some bridging involved at the top of each mesh gap.

Print Dimensions

There are five models:

* X-Mesh Box Large: 112mm x 112mm and 150mm tall

* X-Mesh Box Narrow: 72mm x 72mm and 150mm tall

* X-Mesh Box Small: 72mm x 72mm and 80mm tall

* X-Mesh Tube Narrow: 64mm x 64mm and 150mm tall

* X-Mesh Tube Wide: 122mm x 122mm and 150mm tall

Supports needed?

As always, no supports are needed!

Scalability

These should all scale up or down without trouble, though bear in mind that scaling up will increase the bridging required!

Print Orientation

Each model prints right-way-up like so:

Further Thoughts

This style is just begging to be used in other designs.  Some kind of articulated container with gears and expanded mesh, perhaps?  We shall see! :)

Happy printing!
