It's a woven-topped tiny pie box!  Just right for storing important things like M3 bolts, M3 nuts, and, well, probably other things as well, as long as they're small.

This tiny pie is better with magnets to hold it closed, but there's also a version that is magnet-free, since the magnets do occupy a bit of space in what is a fairly diminutive pie.

Optional Magnets

As usual, we're using 6x3mm cylindrical magnets  here!

Printing Tips

Designed for straightforward printing!  You might want to use smaller (or adaptive) layer heights on the lid, though, since that shallow curve will print much more nicely that way.  Both the base and the lid print right-way-up, like so:

Print Dimensions

The pie dish base is the larger of the two parts and occupies 66mm x 66mm on the printer bed and is 18mm tall.

Further Thoughts

I'd never really given much thought to the shape of woven patterns on the tops of pies before this!  One of the great things about 3D modelling things that are (at least inspired by) things in the real world is that it does force you to appreciate what their actual shapes, forms and relationships are.

It's interesting working through the design process by starting with pencil sketching (okay, digital sketching, whatever!), because the focus is the complete opposite, and it requires a mental shift from focusing on the apparent shape of something to articulating the actual, precise shape instead.  At least with 3D software, though, we can just zoom and rotate and verify that the results really do match what we originally scribbled down :)

Happy print baking!
